In my opinion, In the Court of the Crimson King is vastly overrated. Red is great though.

In that case, surely Red is just as overrated?

No. I think Red is a very consistent and powerful album. Unlike In the Court of the Crimson King.

KC are not my favorite band...well my favorite band can be only one, regardless which one....

But ITCOTCK is one of the best albums ever and KC are in my  top something.
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

I don't understand the difference. What has "powerful" got to do with how high an album is appreciated? How is it more consisent? Is that a good  thing if it is consistently dull?

I don't see the difference.

In consistency and power? Well both are subjective.
By "power" i'm talking about it's emotional aspect. How it makes me feel and such. Fallen Angel, Starless, and even Providence posses these characters that seem to strike a certain chord with me. They just make me feel good. Obviously it's a personal situation.

I don't like Talk To the Wind, the title track is only fairly good (around 3.5*). Moonchild is growing on me seeing i've never really listened to it before. Leaving Epitaph and Schizoid Man, the latter being worthy of the classic title.

I can't really choose. Potato potato - with slightly different cooking techniques mind you.

Well if it's subjective then you cannot argue with my initial point. Red can also be described as overrated. Now that was a pointless discussion.

Of course you argued.Confused I knew the answer anyway. Yes Red can be described as overrated if ITCOTCK is. I wasn't seeking an answer at all.

Red.

Today anyway. Tomorrow I might say ITCOTCK. Not much between them IMO.

King Crimson is actually amongst my least favourite bands, so I can vote in this.

Both are 3* albums and are the best Crimson did, but In the Court has Epitaph and the title track and that tips the balance for me. Mind you, it also has Moonchild...........!

Two of my favorite King Crimson pieces.  I like "In the Court of the Crimson King" slightly more because of that daring Mellotron theme.

Edit: Damn it, I was thinking of the individual tracks, not the album.  In that context, toss a coin.  I like both about the same.  Both have wastes of time ("Moonchild" and "Providence"), but both are excellent.
