From what i've read NCAA TV coverage worth millions though. How do they manage to get away with getting profits like they have without paying the athletes?

Ideally...they are not professional athletes, these are kids...in college to get an education and play football for fun.
So that's how, because they are amateur athletes.
buuuuut of course in reality land we all know the big names take bobo classes/majors (and the profs just let em slide through anyway) and they get money, cars, all kinds of good stuff from boosters and NFL agents.

So basically it's just complete corruption that will never be stopped, designed to make as many $ as possible. What a wonderful world
It is an outdated system, but kids get free college and room and board to play a sport, and if they are good enough, turn that into a career in sports or coaching.  If they aren't good enough then they can get a free college degree and use that accordingly.  The college and room and board could be worth upwards of $40 to $50 k a year for an opportunity that they might not otherwise be able to afford.  There are many students who take full advantage of this and go on and use their educations for future careers.  There are many other student athletes, however, who put all of their chickens in the sports' basket, and when their college careers are done, all that they have are memories because they didn't take advantage of the education that was offered to them.  This, of course, is due to a combination of internal and external forces at work.

Interesting.

It's really crazy to me how popular College sports can be in the US. It could never happen here, and I struggle to imagine that it could happen in any other country.

The thought of these Colleges getting billions from TV and sponsorship deals for a bunch of kid athletes who only get a scholarship is crazy . Similar things happen in Football (Soccer) here with lots of players aged 17-21. But they are earning millions. Way too much really. Whereas in the US they are earning nothing. Just seems strange.

The only fanfics I've read were the Derpy Hooves ones Henry linked once, and Cupcakes and A Day For Spike and Twilight.

Yep.  We are a sports' crazy country (accept for these kids in the Shred Room).  Basically, basketball and football are the only successful college sports.  The money earned from these goes to support all of the other sports like baseball, hockey, water polo, golf, wrestling, volleyball, gymnastics, etc...

Are you f**king serious? I live in Brazil, it isn't necessary to express how much of a real football fan I am.

I'm not referring to you.  I am referring to the US kids who don't like sports.
