Pity, I always liked him. I don't like much music after 1989 either.

Nice to meet you, Seleras. Big smile

Alitaire - That's quite the list you have going there.

- Ask yourself "What is prog?"

I've had that conversation a few times with people and still don't have an answer, nor desire one.

- Realize your answer is probably a bunch of subjective garbage.

If I had one to begin with you'd probably be right. But even my stance of neutrality on the subject is probably subjective garbage anyways.

- Post a poll that's been posted before

I've never posted a poll. No interest in them either.

- Openly berate yourself to hide your self-adoration

Damn. Seems you've experienced this brand of deception before around here. Pity, now I can't use it as I'd planned.

- Use big words to impress folks, specifically like 'acclimating', 'proclivities', or 'boner'.

Got me there. For the record I like 'proclivities' so I shall continue it's usage. But since you're going to be waiting for the right moment to point out any other usage of "larger" words I'll refrain from doing so. ;-)

- Hallucinate that your opinion is important and special

Tried that. It has it's uses. Doesn't mean anyone has to agree with me!

- Post in the Shred Room accordingly

I don't shred. I'm not sure if that's progressive blasphemy but I'm prepared for the consequences.

- Pretend that you don't illegally download music

If this was a couple years ago you'd be correct. Gone "clean" since then. /cites some over used justification such as enjoying the album art, blah blah.

- Meet WalterDigsTunes
- Argue with WalterDigsTunes

I guess these don't really apply anymore.

- Keep yourself up to date with the current trivial memes and popular interests (this quarter is My Little Pony)

Okay. Uh huh. Got it.

- Post reviews of your favorite underground albums that nobody cares about but you

Oh good! So you'll all ignore me when I post something from my band. Couldn't ask for more!

LOL nice answers, I didn't expect you to pay attention to that post.

Seemed to easy not to. ;-)

Greetings to all. Thanks for stopping by to say hello. If I stick around I'll gladly post something from my band (oh I know, everyone has a band these days making the whole "showcase" your work thing a bit tired where you can't tell if I'm here to converse about prog or exclusively to spam you.)

A good shredder you say? Why do I have the feeling this has nothing to do with a guitar?

Bonkers is okay. My non-virtual life is fairly sane. Balance shall be achieved.

Nice to meet you both. /tip of the hat

Hi AtomicCrimsonRush,

Pleased to meet you. Do you have any recommendations for where to get started in 70s era prog? I'm aware of the more popular artists like Jethro Tull, ELP, Kansas and Genesis but have a very limited knowledge of that decade.

What you need is Gnidrolog, Nektar, Can, Gong, Caravan, Gentle Giant

Great newbie thread!
Hi Seleras and welcome to the site! Big Porcupine Tree fan myself, and wouldn´t part with my Sky moves sideways, Up the downstairs, Coma Divine or Metanoia for a million foxes. If you like the spacyness of PT, you should definitely try some Djam Karet. The new release was played live in the studio without any overdubs whatsoever, and it rocks!

Well, TMV's first 3 albums I liked a lot... and I haven't heard Devin Townsend, Opeth, the Pineapple Thief, or Unexpect. Please recommend me an album of one of those bands that is the least metal sounding.Tongue And welks to PA.

You could try What we have Sown by Pineapple Thief. It´s definitely the least metal sounding band from the list - that´s for sure. Very similar feel to Porcupine.
