^^ I don't give half a damn about any of those 'big' names. especially not Dream Theater or Yes.

Yea, strangely the only 'big name' band im excited for is Rush.

"Clockwork Angels" seems like it is going to be very good.

But im a bit bias. Tongue

I haven't really found 2011 disappoiting. Nemo's Revolu$sion is amazing, Dev's Deconstruction and Ghost are really good, I also, contrary to many, find Beardfish' Mammoth effin fantastic, they added the only thing that I missed in their music, sax. Then there is Voice by Hiromi, another great album by her, and, well, VDGG's "A Grounding in Numbers", which I think is their best since the reunion, awesome lyrics and trully prorgessive music. Uriah Heep's new album is also very good. I also quite liked XXV by Pallas. And there are so many albums left that I have to listen to...

Not disappointing for me.

Special mention for:

Pendragon - Passion
..And you will know us by the trail of dead - Tao of the dead
Iona - Another realm
Neal Morse - Testimony 2

The new ones by VDGG/Beardfish/Kate Bush

The new Yes samples sound very promising
Rush - fingers crosssed

If Echolyn and Ritual join the party, 2011 won't too shabby at all!

Disappointment? No not really. I'm not quite the metalhead, but I won't deny that Unexpect and Virus released albums. I just got Unexpect's (which are probably my favorite metal band in general, along with Sleepytime Gorilla Museum if you count them as metal) and from first listen it sounds fecking great! Virus I'm yet to buy but sounds exciting. Korekyojin out with a new album! Anything by Tatsuya Yoshida deserves a listen. I mean there's so much crap prog rock that I don't expect every new release to interest me (hardly so), I'm just happy with a few good ones, just like every year in every decade only had a few good prog rock albums, so will this one! Only now it's a bit more obscure to mainstream audiences, but who cares, if it's just as good every year (I'm pointing at you "WalterDigsTunes"!)!

Nah...nowhere near a disappointment. Some very good releases so far this year for me.......With more to come I am sure.

Arn.Ioe - Ate My Words
Journey - Eclipse
VdGG - A Grounding In Numbers
Therhythmisodd - Raw Material (more jazzy)

And the winner so far....
Neal Morse - Testimony 2

Highly anticipating....
Dream Theater
Yes
Rush

that was supposed to be in reference to what the user saperlipopette just said...
yeah, about the best stuff I've found in the last year were all those songs in that
YouTube yeye neighborhood (German, French and Dutch)...excellent musicianship,
great melodies, that PROGresses me a bunch and a great way to learn a few
European languages.

Hmmm... I like the New Pendragon, WinkBeardfish, Magic Pie and Wobbler just fine. The one that I think will really be stellar though is the new Oblivion Sun. No release date yet but they have been working on this one for quite some time and I believe they are heading into the final stages. Stay tuned for that one!

Deerhoof's 2011 "Deerhoof vs. Evil" is fantastic, and really adds variety to the great releases this year.

Well I was waiting for especially Devin Townsend Project's Deconstruction and Ghost, and Shining's Född Förlorare. They satisfied me enough.  I like Radiohead's The King Of The Limbs, Ulver's Wars Of The Roses also. Now waiting for new albums of King Crimson, Yes, Mastodon, Opeth and Dream Theater.

Haven't heard too many 2011 releases yet, but I agree that Pendragon's new album Passion is quite good. My roommate even asked to borrow the CD after hearing some of it. LOL

I liked Radiohead's King of Limbs, even though I wouldn't say it was the best thing they've ever done. It sounded more like the follow up to Amnesiac than their previous two albums, IMO.

Oh, and I guess I was more high on it than other people, but I did enjoy Blood Ceremony's new album.

But I definitely still want to get a couple of the releases already out this year, like VDGG and the King Crimson ProjeKct and some of the stuff off the top rated for 2011.

I am also looking forward to all the big name albums coming out over the summer and into the fall. Hopefully, with any luck some of the line-up changes that have happened over the past couple years will result in something fresh for those bands (or at least some spectacular "so-bad-they're-good" albums, I also find those entertaining.) Wink

I've been unsatisfied with progressive rock this year, but a lot of great metal has been released lately. I'm looking forward to the new Sepultura album in a week.

I feel that by the end of the year, it will have been a very good year.  With Beardfish, The Mars Volta, Rush, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Devin Townsend, Pain of Salvation, Opeth, and many others, I am going to be overjoyed at the end of 2011.

It's been a week semester so far compared to last year. Either that or I'm not listening to the right stuff.
