And speaking of Prince Amukamara, he is now a Giant.

Trust me, the Lions did good on this one - getting a Lombardi Trophy winner was a steal at 13. I watched the Auburn/Oregon BCS championship and Fairley was all over the place. He was Defensive MVP of the game with a sack, three tackles for losses, a forced fumble, and one helluva tough goal line stand:

And like Ndamukong Suh, Fairley has a mean streak:

I pity Jay Cutler. What are you going to do double team Suh? There's even been talk that the Lions can line up Corey Williams and Sammie Hill at defensive tackle and have Sue and Fairley as defensive ends on some plays. Imagine having a whole line of 300 pound guys rushing the QB.

Yes, the Lions had a pretty damn good D-line, add another to the mix? That is going to be scary.

Anyway, no surprise at #1
Jake Locker goes at #8 to the Titans. He was hailed as the better Vince Young so might as have him replace Young! Though I really never thought Locker very good honestly.
Giants get a great CB, the vest DE from Iowa goes to the Buccs and Ingram to the Saints

Some good picks there.

It's a shame an AFC team wasn't #1. I would've liked to have seen a more direct competitor set their team back another 3-5 years, instead of the Panthers.

It's unbelievable how NFL teams keep making this mistake.  What's worse is that Newton has by far the weakest resume of the recent run first "QB" busts.  How can a team draft a QB #1 overall that has no arm, horrific mechanics, one year of starting experience, questional decision making, and extremely questionable ethics?  Have fun with "simplistic equals fast" Panthers, see you when you draft another QB #1 overall 3-5 years from now.

Same rationale that happens every time Anton "but but hes like a physical beast, and we'll just develop him"
Even though developing QB's like that seems to take anywhere from 2-4 years and even Vince Young hasn't proven himself capable.
The ethics thing is a different story and one that's not really an issue for me.

But yeah, we'll see how bad he busts. Much as I hate Tim Tebow I think he may develop out of pure and utter willpower. If Newton has that drive...well anyone has the ability to develop.

It is crazy though. I'll let you take the "hot" players with those picks and let a beast CB fall down to the Giants Cool
OL, DL and defense in general. Save QB's, receivers, and running backs for other rounds!

Fairley is a great addition to the Lions D line...I would be pretty scared going up against that line this season.
#1 QB who cares, lets see if they agree on a contract, that will be the next drama.

Locker to the Titans is a great move for Jake...much better than him going to Washington, that would have been a disaster. I think he will flourish in Tenn, after this year. Let Young play this year and then trade him off would be my guess the Tenn plan.

Ingram and Cameron Jordan to my Saints... Whoohoo!!!! Amazing outcome for New Orleans, giving Brees another outlet on play action. Cameron is a beast of a DE, I heard someone last night mention both his hands together measure 22".... what!!!

Interesting what the Falcons did to give up all future picks for J Jones.....

From what I understand the Steelers got a steal (no pun intended, seriously) with Heyward falling to them at 31.  I find the joke that is college football almost unbearable to watch (especially Big 10) so I don't know much about him but I'm glad they are getting younger on defense.  NOW, FOR GOD'S SAKE, FIND A CB!

He's actually a pretty great fit for a 3-4, so yeah good pick for your Steelers.

Can be a beast but isn't really a pass rush master, more of a big guy, container, great tackler. Who can of course get to the QB.
I think that's why he fell, due to his "inconsistency" but really he probably isn't a perfect for a 4-3 like Ohio State used.

Why the Big 10? We have some schools that actually still play smashmouth football and even use true fullbacks!
Though yeah most of our schools, now even Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State are using more spread sets. Cry

So, will Michigan's Denard Robinson be the top QB picked next year?

haha probably.
And he's an even worse fit for the NFL.

Giants 2nd pick was DT Marvin Austin. I know he has a red flag the size of New Jersey but he was one of the top tackles out there.
Keeping the D-Line stacked

*chanting* OVER-RATED, OVER-RATED, OVER-RATED

It's the fact that every year the only time any team in the conference plays anyone decent is when Ohio St plays USC.  Despite avoid any meaningful competition the conference is awarded with national praise from "experts" and bowl bit after bowl bit all while looking down on the Boise State's and TCU's of the world who are left fighting for their bowl table scraps.  It's also that, living well within Big 10 land, I have to hear "well, they have to play each other" everytime I point out how weak the conference is.  My usual response: my little team played against other little league teams, imagine that.

Oh so typical BCS BS?
Yeah it's all pretty retarded.

Though by your own semi admittance you just sound pissy about having to always hear about the Big 10LOL
That being said I still think Heryward should be a good player for you guys.

Giants third pick is WR Jerrel Jernigan from Troy  *shrugs shoulders*
Management has been pretty good with picking players, a few misses of course, I'll just have to trust their judgment again.

Glad to see Evan Royster get drafted, 6th round (projected as 2nd originally) but he's on the Redskins so might as well end his career now and retire LOL

So, let me get this straight: the owners won their appeal and the lock out is back on after a week of it being off. What does that do to free agency now? I only ask because the Lions hardly addressed any of their actual needs, drafting the best players available. I was assuming they'd be heavily involved in free agency to...you know...patch up some gaping holes.

I know, I thought for sure we'd make it for the season but I really fear now we're going to have some kind of shortened season....

If so imagine no training camp, no pre season, players can keep in physical shape but injuries will be even more prevalent and things will be so rusty.
All because the two sides just had to have a bigger piece of the $9 billion pie... I thought the managers did win out as you said, what's going on now?

There is no free agency right now. Even if the stay would have been rejected, it was quite unclear what rules the league would have operated under.
