They are excellent, and one of the best examples of prog, but not the best prog band ever.

Thats 10 awsome albums, so VdGG is the best prog band ever obviusly, since they realesed the longest string of perfect albums and actualy never realsed a singel bad album so far. Now we can close the thread.

This is a toughie. I went with the second choice because yes, they had 6 incredible albums, and although bands peak higher than they did, no one band had such an incredible run without a few hiccups.

And I think i detect a bit of a resurgence of favour on this forum, and in the general press, for Emerson Lake and Palmer in recent months.

Not the group Yes but just "Yes" to the question.
I would put forward Tull. Their 12 studio albums after This Was i.e." Stand Up" and up to and including "A" IMHO are better than anything Genesis dished out. I would also put Gentle Giant ahead as well. Each to his/her own I suppose.
I have tried very hard to like Genesis; I have played them and played them but they just do not do "it" for me. May be one day some magic will happen.

The original 12 Tull studio albums, plus the superlative Living in the Past set certainly eclipses Genesis' output. But then I prefer Tull and you must prefer Genesis, or else you wouldn't have made this poll in the first place.

I would put Yes up against those very excellent Genesis albums. Starting with The Yes Album, Fragile, Close to the Edge, Relayer, Tales, Going for the One and then a fine addition with Tormato.
I would put the Yes Album up against Trespass (prediction: Yes wins)
Fragile against Nursery Chryme (prediction: this will be the tie breaker)
Close to the Edge against Foxtrot (Yes takes this one too)
Selling England by the Pound is a tough one so I'll use Going for the One and Tormato against that (but Genesis will probably still take this one)
and Tales from Topographic Oceans against Lamb Lies Down simply because they're both doubles (and Genesis will take the vote here too, leaving Fragile vs. Nursery to determine the outcome of this argument)

I love Genesis, I think they embody progressive rock, and when it comes down to it, are my favorite of the classics. I can't pick a favorite though. To many good bands.
