^ Why? Kid is only a sophomore not a junior. Yeah he risks injury but even still if he is number one now he will number one next year when I believe he graduates because he took his red shirt year. It worked out for Peyton Manning but didn't work for little Matty Lienert. Big difference between Luck and Lienert. Luck is much better.
Picks Ravens, Colts, Saints and Packers.

He risks injury, in which case he's not #1. He risks not getting any better, in which case he's still probably #1, but it'll hurt his stock somewhat. He risks having a bad year, in which case he's not #1.
Also, next draft is the last before the CBA expires. Since rookie pay-scales are expected to be reworked, he could be leaving like $30 million on the table even if he is drafted first next year.
And for what? A worthless degree he'll never use?

I think it's great to see kids decide to stay another year at school, instead of jumping for the NFL. Especially those predicted to be higher picks. Great decision, and hopefully one based on the realization that "I'll be making a sh*t ton of $ anyway...do I need tens of millions more?" And hey, if you're lazy/not smart enough to get a real degree and you end up getting hurt in training camp, well.....too bad. As much as we accept it for our entertainment so many of these people get a free ticket through school (I mean eduction wise) simply for our entertainment/the schools $ they rake in. So I can't say I feel bad for those who major in ski resort management or golf course trimming, and never make it in the NFL

A useless degree in engineering from Stanford? You have got to be kidding? Yeah this kid is smart. Not to mentions all the connections he would have by attending said university being the star quarterback on their greatest team ever. Yeah useless.
BTW how may games did you see him play? I have seen 10 in the last two years and this guy is only getting better. Injury is always an issue so you purchase insurance for that. Saw him in person when he and the Cardinal took down my Bruins 35-0. Luck can move, throw and think. He is the real deal just like Manning was.

Oh, never fully explained my picks
Saints over Seahawks....well yeah
Ravens over Chiefs, just a flat out better team but of course the chance for upset is here, and wouldn't be the craziest thing ever.
Jets over Colts. Very tough one...but I think, as usual, the Jets will play scrappy for Ryan. Peyton may be the QB of our generation, but he is only human...that offense is very beat up and matches up well with the Jets secondary. IF the Jets can run the ball with success they can keep Freeney and Mathis from being the monsters they are. But still tight, Colts win is very possible.
Packers over Eagles. Again, very tight and usually I'd not pick a team with such woeful running...but they are rolling, the defense is one of the best, and that offense can be unstoppable. Eagles are a bit susceptible to the pass, Vick may not be 100% and are on a bit of a slide. Until the final 8 minutes, played a poor game against the Giants, that VIkings loss was sad, and I never did like the throw away games.
So we shall see how terribly wrong I am!

It's useless because the money he'd be getting in next years draft would make it useless, brah. Besides, he's going to be making his money in football, not engineering. He's already gotten what he needs out of college to make his living and if he really wants to finish someday: college will still be there when he retires.
Here's a couple possible headlines for next year:
"Un-Luck-y: Stanford QB Out for the Year"
"Out of Luck: Stanford Star's Draft Stock Plummets"
Whereas here's the only headline he could get coming out this year:
"Luck-y S.Q.B.: Stanford QB Taken First Overall"

So the kid decided to play for his school, instead of going for the big money.
Am I really the only one that sees this is admirable?
Besides, I'm going to go out on a limb and say he'll be fine monetarily....

Compared to the NFl money, yes it most definitely is useless. Besides, a BA is barely relevant as it is. Eitherway, if he entered the draft he can still get that degree later. He can't get that money he would have made.
Bottom line, he won't use his degree so it doesn't matter.
I've seen him play no games. I don't see why that matters. You think he's getting better. That's thought with a lot of prospects, but it doesn't always happen.
Injury insurance? Wtf? Ok... or he could enter the draft? And take his huge bloated rookie money that he won't be able to get after this?

I hope so. I don't see why a degree is seen as something to be admired. So many people have degrees, and they intrinsically mean nothing.

Do really think John Elway is the owner of a chain of car dealerships and now is president of the Broncos because he did not use his degree or just because he was good athlete? Maybe if you are Michigan State or Ol Miss or LSU or Florida or Ohio State you come out early. Stanford is not the same. The guy has a father who played in the NFL he has a coach who played in the NFL. In other words he has the best advisers you can have and he still made that decision. Maybe money is not his main concern. You know there are people who still believe that.

I think John Elways has those things because of the money he was able to accrue by playing football and then later invest in other business ventures, and because he's a bright guy who can manage a business. Neither of those things relate to having a degree.
A degree =/= intelligence. It's not even remotely related to it.

Ever think it is just having the college experience? Some people really enjoy it. Alteraun Verner a rookie conner back with the Titans just enrolled in his last semester at UCLA and is living in the dorm! I think the guy misses school even though he led all conner backs with 100+ tackles this year. Finance major btw.

That's fine. It's still a stupid decision.
I love the experience of getting drunk on my couch. Nobody is calling me admirable if I do that instead of going to work.

If i went in looking for a job with a degree from <enter state college name here> against a guy with one from Standford, Harvard etc how many more door are going to be opened for the guy form one of those schools? Mostly because the guy interviewing me came from one of those schools. It does mean something.

What are your other qualifications? What's the job?
If you're more experienced, you know who they want? If the job is owning a car dealership, you know it doesn't matter.
The fact is he'll never need to work outside of football again so it doesn't matter at all.

No it isn't. First of all If he does not feel he is ready then it is not a stupid decision. If he doesn't feel ready or confident then he will probably fail so that is smart. Reason #2 do you think that even if he gets a 4 year contract worth 40 mil his chance of getting hurt are greater in the NFL than than the Pac12? NFL contracts are not guaranteed btw. That is why they get a lump sum up front in his case maybe 8-10 million. Then the first two years are around 5-8 million and most of the money coming later in the contract. The safety in the contract is \for the owner because if you get hurt you don't get paid. So what Andrew Luck is risking is about 10 million dollars if he suffers a career ending injury in college. You can get insurance for that amount that is also tax free if you collect it. In my mind no matter what he does Andrew Luck is going to successful .

^ and he is not "dumb", class valedictorian in high school and an academically sound student. Second guessers do not have all the information. I admire his decision because it was obviously well thought out.
