Topic: Black Sabbath "eras" Posted: December 12 2010 at 16:59 |
BS is one of my favourite bands and I wonder what albums are the most popular here.
IMO these pairs shows the development of this band from DOOM to progrock. I understand that I'll be alone with my opinion because I've never heard smb calls BS a progband.... please argue your choice.

I tend to prefer the earlier era of Sabbath. I appreciate where they went, but there's somthing terrifying and primal going on in their first round of releases.

Everyone knows rock attained perfection in 1974, it's a scientific fact.

I voted the 2nd pair.I'm a fan of doom metal(especially
doom/death,funeral doom,doom/black)and I had created a
discussion(general music discussions). But there were no interest. If you
want, let's go to discuss about this kind of metal music.
Do you like Drudkh?

None of the above.
Why? You didn't list Volume 4! Now that's a perfect mix of the early darkness and the mid-period progginess.

Of course I know and I like this album. But it's not as emblematic as others + with what album VOL 4 should be paired in your opinion???

It's a band from my country! But I didn't know about them - wikipedia told me... .. Sorry, but the only metal (DOOM etc) that I can listen to are BS (+ DIO sometimes and maybe Iron Maiden). Black Sabbath are the only heavyband that I really like .

Earliest albums (with Ozzy), with mid-Ozzy period right after. I prefer that still very heavy dark bluesy sound

you culd have paired the debut with paranoid and master of reality with vol 4, but anyway Paranoid and Master of reality makes a perfect pair 2 of the very best metal albums ever. I love all the first 6 albums however.

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath & Sabotage, but I would have included Vol. 4 in there. Love the transition the band was in at the time. it's the perfect mash up of strait up metal and old school doom. The numbers are all catchy, but with depth. Not too unapproachable, but still with a malevolent sound to them.
Gotta love the first 3 albums, but 4 through 6 is where it's at for me.

If you had put their debut with Paranoid, it would have been tougher.
For me it's option 2, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is Heavy Prog (or Prog Metal) of the best kind or simply awesome hard rock if you want to call it that way. Sabotage is incosistent, but still some really great new stuff that Sabbath hadn't done previous to it.

Worse mistake is omitting of Black Sabbath´s debut.

I don't see why it should be paired at all since its position as a transitional record makes it unique.

"Mistake"? It's a FORUM or it's an investigation?? I've included just my favourite albums - or it's a mistake to love them?
Their debut belongs to Paranoid's\Master era and Vol4 can't be paired IMO with any BS album - so I haven't included it +I'm sure there were a lot of polls where all Sabbath's classic albums were represented - and I don't see any point to make the same poll again

I went for the first choice only because of Paranoid but you screwed up
You should've linked or paired the debut & paranoid and MoS with vol 4
