and what of Jazzrock/Fusion?  Avant garde?  Electronic?  None of these genres have much more to do with trad. Prog than X-Tech metal does, but they all make good bedfellows and attract a similar listener who appreciates complex modern music.

or should that be dicuses?

I've been attending this site for about four years.  I have seen Art Rock split into three subs, which I thought was a good idea and Progressive Metal (I think that was called that then) split into three, which I didn't think was a good idea.  Metal really isn't my cup of tea either and so I don't know the artists well enough, other than some by names, to pass judgment.  I think this site is better off as a big tent rather than as an exclusive club.

Sorry, premature posting.  Try this: think of prog as a really big discus fish being followed around by a lot of subgenres. LOL

This is an all-encompassing prog site. Such a move would only make sense if everything but 70s progressive rock and it's direct descendants (neo-prog, modern symphonic) were retained. And that's probably less than 50% of the bands here.

Yup, that battle is long over.  While I'm personally only an occasional PM listener, I love the energy and youth that the PM fans bring to the site.  This site brings different generations together on a regular basis, that's pretty cool.

I can't stand most metal, but I don't really see why you'd leave prog-metal out.  The point of this site is discovering more prog, and many people who were metal fans probably found a prog metal band, came here, and discovered a lot of prog.  I'd much prefer that to the alternative, they go on metal boards and everybody just keeps listening to more non prog metal.
