Xover? Put everything in Xover that we can't get into another sub! I'm surprised he didn't say eclectic.

Related...? Don't even make me go there.

Dragonforce?
Now I've heard some outrageous suggestions but that's nuts.
No offense if you like them, but prog??
Every single song sounds the same.
I don't know anything about their newest release...but I doubt it is close to progressive. Even if it is, I think 1 album does not a prog band make. Especially considering the first 3 before it.

But hey, I've been saying this for lots of bands that are here......so who knows Wink

Dragonforce does have some pretty inventive album art, though.

Maybe a new category? "Bands who aren't Prog but should be Prog because they have cool album art".

I could see PR, but I don't know why that category seems so derned important to so many. This is, after all a prog site.

Just to make it clear. I havenīt got an opinion about their inclusion. I was just pointing out that he didnīt suggest them for PM.

And whatīs with all the ridicule ( and here I donīt mean you post DavidSmile)??? If the man seriously believe that Dragonforce belong on PA he shouldnīt be mocked and ridiculed in an open forum. Say what you mean about his suggestion but donīt ridicule the man. Lots of hostility coming from some members here. I donīt care for it. Especially not in an open forumConfused.

Dragonforce aren't and shouldn't be included in Xover or Prog related.

I discovered these guys from Guitar Hero III with their song "Through The Fire and the Flames". I really liked the song, so I went out and bought the album that it is off of. It is certainly a progressive album! It's still ultimately power metal, but there are many prog hintings. I would suggest them for prog related or crossover because they aren't quite prog metal, but they are without a doubt more progressive than Radiohead or Muse!

Your thoughts?
Xover is not a place to put bands that are not quite something else, it is a subgenre in its own right and a subset of Art Rock that recognises that Progressive Rock can sometimes be a bit commercial. While we do have some heavy and metalic bands within the sub (eg Paatos, TSO, Haggard, 3, The Dear Hunter, Coheed and Cambria, etc) they have an Art Rock element to them that DragonHeart does not possess.

As for Prog Related, personnally I don't see it - while they are undoubtably influenced by Metallica and Iron Maiden (probably more the latter than the former), they do not have any direct Prog Rock or Prog Metal influences any more than any other Power Metal band.

...I'll ignore the Radiohead and Muse comment Tongue

DragonForce were called DragonHeart for the first 3 or 4 years of their existence but were forced to change their name when a Brazilian band of the same name objected. Since their music has changed diddle-squat since then I'm more than happy to keep calling them DragonHeart in much the same way that I'll still call Snickers by their proper name of Marathon. I agree UMUR, we've all come across bands that we initially or still consider progressive that have no support in the community..  I don't care for mockery and ridicule either, prevents alot of future posts that could mean a lot to the site.

After you watch that crap video which is actually the real thing, go watch this parody someone did of it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwPAewBFVQs

The sad thing is . . . pretty much everything in that parody sounds better than what they actually played. LOL
