I've heard Giant Squid once (and though my name's not David), I thought it was about 3.5star-ish? Some parts were annoying to me, which dragged down some of the really cool parts.
And it was over-long, IMO. But I need to hear it again. It was good though, just not amazing--that's my two cents.

For what? Seriously, it sounds nothing like Spock's Beard. I sense hardly any similarities between the vocal styles and sounds between Robert and Morse, for one. For two, the music and the production are entirely different. The production for SB has a much more smooth, typical neo/symph prog modern sound, whereas STW's production is more raw (comparatively). I can't think of one SB song that even is remotely structured similarly to any song on STW either.

It's in my top 20 and I haven't heard it.
Simply 'cause I don't think there's 20 albums this year I want to hear.

if by smooth you mean professional and by raw you mean home-grown. They both have long typically progressive songs are are synth/guitar oriented and are religiously based. Sb has a more professional sound while STW sounds like SB's demo tapes. my opinion.

Mmmmm the same riff being played over-and-over for 23:36 is just brilliant.

Oddly enough, I'd only give it 3 stars or so. But I just heard it for the first time, and it at least has growth potential.
