Much as I like Lord, Emerson buries him in a landslide of a billion blistering boulders (er, really big pebbles).

This is stretching things a tad in Emerson's case surely ? he did receive piano lessons as a child but so did my mum, and she can barely bash out London Bridge. There is no evidence to suggest that Keith studied under the tutelage of a music teacher. Don't know anything about Lord's formative training so can't comment. Wink

I love em' both but voted for Emerson as to my ears, Lord was often relegated to a rhythm role in his main band Purple.

Perhaps Classically influenced would be more apt ?

No vote here.

From  a technical standpoint, there's no reason to compare them.

About the sound: Jon wins because oh his overdriven sounds. But credit should be given to Emerson's Hammond percussion too.

Jon Lord, that lengthy solo that comes after Space Truckin finishes on Made in Japan, Emerson can't do that.

Think of Hammond organ, think of Jon Lord. The best.

And Emerson was NOT classically trained. Wakeman had some classical training but dropped out of the RCM before completing his course; nevertheless, he spanks Emerson for technical accuracy, though maybe not for excitement and showmanship.

John Lord is way ahead of Emerson technically, but Emerson is a lot more creative IMO. Gonna have to go with Lord though, watching Emerson makes me cringe.

Emerson, the guy could do anything, classical training or not. The fact that Lord had classical training and Emerson didn't just goes to show how much more talented Emerson is. Besides, Emo has that jazz aspect too that Lord never had, check this out I'm sure many of you have seen it but it's Emerson playing this insane improv with classical and jazz overlapping, two different melodies on the same piano:

Keith Emerson easily.  It's not even a fair matchup.  Maybe Emerson vs Wakeman (maybe?).
