While The Jonas Brothers have fame and fortune at very young age with mediocre music, Yes had to fight all their life to get some security.

I hate to disprove Ivan so completely, but who the heck are The Jonas Brothers?

A clean-living American act who appeal to very young fans and sell shedloads of units - unless Ivan's referring to the two guys who run my local kebab house, of course.
It's not that I can't find worth in anything, it's just that I can't find worth in enough.

Overrated by whom? Certainly not here, since none of their albums are in the Top 100Confused...

And BSS at least deserves that honor.

Well, for a band that get's a lot of attention, compared to most other progressive acts anyway, I´d have to say that Dream Theatre seem a tad shy in the actual song writing department. And their individual soloing just seems ... more technically skilled than actually good, if that makes any sense.

I respectfully call you false. If anything, people stereotype them and never give them the time of day

I can take or leave ELP (I've only got Tarkus and Trilogy) but what really worries me about them is that their "biggest fan" in the UK is the right-wing comedian Jim DavidsonTongue

I thought they were an ordinary band at first , but if you keep listening you'll proably end up liking them. Although it's symphonic prog , ELP is no easy listening stuff and quite demanding.
I remember the day ELP clicked on me , I first listened to Keith Jarret's Koln Bremme and Lausanne concerts and then Welcome Back. From that day on I am a fanboy.

I pretty much agree. They are technically talented, I don't think anyone is debating that, but From a writing point of view, They Have NO talent. Space Dye Vest, their best song from a written perspective, was written solely by Kevin Moore. But also on that note, I seriously hate James LaBrie. His incredibly cheesy and badly pitched voice never fail to make me cringe.

I do like Dream Theater, they just aren't that good from a writing perspective, i mean take "Take The Time". Awesome guitar/keyboard solos, but some of the cheesiest lyrics and vocals I've ever heard. Compared to Yes, Genesis, ELP and Marillion, they have no writing talent.
Before I get any criticism over this, remember this is my opinion.

I don't know whats goin on here.  People always point towards Brain Salad Surgery to defend ELP.  ELP is a great band, I listen to them a lot, but I don't really like BSS.  I think that BSS is the first album where they lost the tightness they had before that.  I've always much preferred Pictures at an Exhibition and their first album (even trilogy and tarkus), but not BSS.

I see what you mean, as in someone starting out in prog cannot have more useful opinions than an experienced fan. Agreed..but I would also go so far as to suggest that a neophyte should not be forming opinions in the first place, beyond recognition of likes and dislikes.  LOL  Because, if one is highly opinionated from inception, one's going to find it difficult to find a lot of music in any genre to his liking.  What I am saying..there's a certain point before you start thinking about whether Genesis or any other band is overrated or not,  it cannot be from day one, that should not be your concern at that stage.   When I was getting started with death metal,  I found the "softer" Swedish stuff easier to take and was turned off by  the more aggressive American sound - I know The T will relate better to this example than you, but whatever LOL - but the guy who introduced me to these bands persuaded me to persevere for a bit and see how it goes.  If I had decided at that point that he was overrating the American bands, I would have denied myself a lot of music that I love now.

To put it bluntly, you don't form opinions on such presumably weighty topics when your vision is about as crystal clear as the mist.
