we've had this discussion sooo many times, I'm sure you already knew my position, haha. You'll recall that I voted for a certain desert critter in that classic tournament of bands...

Camel turns into a reindeer as the shock (aka weird banging) nears Helsinki!

I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

Oh, my gosh, I just corrected that... I don't know why I keep on believing that The Snow Goose comes after Moonmadness. It must have something to do with keeping the two M's close together .

^Despite missing my prefered rating by two stars it's a very good review indeed But did you forget something about the order in which Camel released their celebrated three?

Besides how do you come to the conclusion that Camel's music comes from the heart and ELP's not?...I know that it's all about your personal tastes but in my opinion with the exeption of some songs and "The Snow Goose" Camel is the cold one here. I don't want to sleep with symphonic prog , I have my copy of Tangerine Dream "Zeit" for that matter! ( Incredible album by the way)

Does anyone else think that Camel would have a little more 'energy' and 'punch' if they had had a different drummer??
Wishing no disrespect to Andy Ward, he was capable enough, but he wasn't really up there with the likes of Palmer, Collins, Bruford et al..
IMO.. |
Personally, I think Andy Ward is Camel's big redeeming feature... relaxed, effective and good at keeping the mood. Sure, he's not at the level of Palmer and Bruford as a hard drummer, or as emotionally effective as Collins, but he's not at all bad.

You can hardly compare so different styles of music.
You can compare ELP to Triumvirat or Camel to Jethro tull or Caravan. Their respective styles remain in the same neighborhood.
This poll is like to compare Weather Report to François Couperin. Useless. |
Don't agree, you can compare everything, IMO.
