I'm going to pretend the poll is about progressive music and vote for the US because of avant jazz and modern progressive.

Indeed, I hope he meant bestselling cars!  LOL  They do have a wide range of offerings across the board, no denying,  but where are those Lamborghinis?

It really depends on when you are talking about.  If you are going for the '70's classic era, the UK, Italy and even France beat the USA easily.

UK prog has been far, far ahead of US prog, but this distance has somewhat lessened lately.

it could be.. but wouldn't.... if the 'world' could barely edge the UK.  How do think a subset of that would fare.  We all know that people tend to stick to the familiar...

Well, if it's any consolation, even though I picked the UK over the US in this poll (and I'm a US citizen).......I would pick Italy over the UK for prog without hesitation.  Big smile

True enough, UK seems to the chief in neo-prog ever since Marillion came to public knowledge, but it seems like every group coming from there since is incapable of doing sometyhing else but neo_prog.... past the 70's , its US hands down (all genres considered)

And it's not the odd exception like Karda Estra that will deny this rule. Even Thieve's Kitchen's latest album wth its strong retro-prog flavour reeks of neo-prog.

Excellent list, but perhaps you forgot that we're talking about PROG here.... I wouldn't call the likes of Alice Cooper or The Doobie Brothers progWink.

i have an "strange" idea that U.S. progressive popular music is very different than British, and, IMHO, much better.
