Yeah, you wouldn't expect Rush to be strolling it on a PROG SITE, would ya?

Try posting the same poll on a metal/hard rock site and I bet you'd get the same result... in reverse proportionWink

Like so many others I like both bands - Rush has to win in the proggishness stakes, but I actually voted Zep because of the sheer coolness of the first four albums. Oh and cos I grew up with Zep and Rush came later. Personal thing as always.
It's not that I can't find worth in anything, it's just that I can't find worth in enough.

To me, there is no contest on a prog site, because Rush are a great prog band, and Led Zep are a great rock band, so I vote for Rush.

If we were voting on greatest bands it would be more difficult, although as someone who has all LPs from both bands and saw LZ with Bonham and Rush in the late '70's, I think I would still vote for Rush.

Led Zep were hugely influential, especially on Rushs' earlier works, but I simply cannot listen these days to the second LP of Physical Graffiti, Presence, or In Through the Out Door - I find them bland and completely in some comfort zone.

Rush, in contrast, have continued to evolve and still put out interesting and challenging music, even though I think Snakes & Ladders would merit no more than a three star LP if I were reviewing it.

I like these polls, though - they do lead to interesting threads!TongueTongueTongueTongue

Cream were to short lived. But Bonham vs Ginger and Clapton vs Page would be intresting.

Bruce said the only one in the band worth anything was dead. Ouch!

I felt sorry for Rush, so I gave them 10 or so extra votes.

Because John Paul Jones is an awesome musician (not just a bassist) and because Bonham is sometimes underrated for his abilities on the drumset (gotta love that bass-drum on "Good Times, Bad Times," etc.), Zeppelin gets my vote....

I don't particularly enjoy the albums of either of these bands, partially because I only have 1 Zeppelin album on vinyl and have only heard 3 Rush albums in their entirety. But I do enjoy a few tracks from each.

Rush has 2112, Xanadu, Subdivisions, Circumstances, La Villa Strangiato, and By-Tor and the Snow Dog.Big smile

Zeppelin has No Quarter, Stairway to Heaven, Over the Hills and Far Away, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, Fool in the Rain, and The Battle of Evermore.Smile

Hmm, I guess I'ma vote Rush, but they're pretty close in terms of importance to me.

Both have made big impact on me, but I've been more interested to learn Alex's Lifeson guitar parts than Jimmy Page's so... Rush

Difficult choice, but Rush will do it for me. Those drums and arpeggios "drewls"
Help me in my search for knowledge,
I must learn the Secret Art.
Who dares to help me raise the one
Whose very name near stills my heart?
