Well, I see this poll only as an oportunite to express our opinion and share it with all others, and it also has some statistic value. I dont know what were ths poster's objective but I think that if this was a competition, it would have "Who is better?" on the title.
Just my opinion

Eh, I voted for Pink Floyd, only because I wanted to even it up. I enjoy them both so much, so in reality, I do not choose.I take them both equally, and as an overall addition to my musical enjoyment. Choosing bothers me, and I don't actually have to choose between them, so I don't see the need for a poll. I mean, if you wanted to get an overall look on their popularity based on the target audience for this particular site, look at their overall album ratings and compare. As such, I don't really see this poll as very important.

^ with what he said. KC also has a bigger catalog to draw from these days with all the stuff DGM is slowly putting out. I guess I can say that I am drawn to KC as well by the fact they will improvise music and not just give you a greatest hits concert.

I think I said I wouldn't vote somewhere in this thread, but I've changed my mind.
In the end I went with Floyd because I've listened to their whole catalog over and over again while I have to be "in the right mood" to throw on some Crimso.

King Crimson. From In The Court Of The Crimson King to Red I could easily listen to all the songs on the albums. Then Discipline came and I had to skip a few songs, Beat made me skip a few more and 3 Of A Perfect Pair only has a couple songs I can/want to listen to. I never got into any of their stuff after the second reunion but that's plenty of high quality music. As for Pink Floyd I never really got into them. Perhaps it's because I never gave them enough time but Animals was the only album that instantly grabbed me. I have DSOTM, WYWH, and The Wall and I know that in due time I'll give them a spin, but I have too much of a backlog of music to listen to and PF doesn't interest me right now.

King Crimson is by far more "prog" and hence by far the better band. Fripp is one of the best rock guitarists ever- rivalling Steve Howe. To listen to the progression of KC's sound through the course of the seventies, from "The Court of the Crimson King" to "Red" is to listen to the full realization of a musical idea fueled by experimentation and stong conveyance of feeling. Pink floyd is still a sound band, but they're not even comparable with KC. Im really suprised that the poll is so close, it makes me think pink floyd is in the race because they're just more popular and recieve more air play not becasue they're the superior band.

Pink Floyd are the band that is by far better in their taste for beauty and great sounds. King Crimson are very complicated and all the songs are nearly the total opposite of catchy music. Some people like the beauty more than the quirkyness, the others don't - and I think they have both the same multitude of fans in a prog forum. Let's be evil and say the reverse: It makes me think King Crimson is in the race because they please the prog fans with many many notes and strange rhythms and because they are told to be a "cult" band.

I beleive Pink Floyd made one of the most beatiful and most durable voices in pop music history.
However, King Crimson is beyond most of the pop bands at their time. In Chinese, we call it "境界“. Which means somewhat "level/state", at that point, I beleive King Crimson is the better.
Both of their albums are my favorites but for PROG, I vote for King Crimson.

I like two KC albums, buit both are outstanding, probably better than any PF album, but tghe ones thatat io don't like, are simply horrendous for my taste, on the other hand I like most Pink Floyd Catalogue, maybe none of them as much as ITCOTCK, but i don't dislike any PF album..
So based in pure taste, I'll go witth PF.

Well, I'm just not into KC that much. Discipline, Three of a Perfect Pair and In the Court of the Crimson King are the standouts.
Pink Floyd had the first excellent album with Syd, that on it's own would win it for them, I also love Atom Heart Mother, I know a lot of Floyd fans are split over that & the Floyd themselves don't seem particularly keen on it, but I think Geeson's orchestration was fantastic and made the album bubble. Darkside, Animals and Meddle are all fine too. Wall and Final Cut are dark to the point of silliness, I preferred the Watersless albums.
