Rush vs Led Zeppelin

While the influence on the first album was significant (an understatement, really), I feel Rush progressed beyond the influence - even as early as 2112 and certainly on Farewell I don't think of Zeppelin at all. 

Certainly Zep's debut along with Cream were instrumental influences for Geddy and Alex, and Neil was doing Who covers for the gig he had before Rush.

Hendrix actually improve the influected blues origin with other types of music like jazz and rock of course.   Is not the question who is better or not. it's a matter of taste.

This is a no-brainer for me.  Much like the Rush vs. Magma poll.  Rush it is on both counts.  I've been a big fan of Rush now for close to 20 years.  I was never a big fan of Zep.  I don't think I've made much of a secret about that either.  They did two or three songs that I really like.  "Battle of Evermore" and "No Quarter" come to mind, but otherwise, I think the hype was a lot bigger than the music deserved. 

Individually the members of Rush are, imo, more talented musicians.So much of LZ stuff sounds the same, Rush is constantly re-inventing their style and sound. So like in the previous Beatles poll, my vote goes for Rush. And as for Zep being an influence on Rush, I'm sorry, but what Led Zep song did they cover in their Feedback album, oh thats right, none...(no Beatles cover either) not to say they didnt influence Rush but maybe not as heavily as people asume.

Agree completely! 2112 was their last album to feature notable Zep influences.

Do they have to do one?? please what a bland argument you do... No they do not HAVE to do a LZ cover. But when a band like Rush comes out with an album of cover songs from bands that they said had influenced them in their youth; it is an important observation that there is an absence of LZ. Especially when it seems that a lot of people think that with out Zepplin there would be no Rush.
