Well my fellow progmates, it was quite a pleasant listening to me for a long, long time and still I'm very amazed to what I listened to in "Not As Good As The Book". I consider this to be a forecoming genetarional breakthrough piece of work. This is pure Prog Rock in all levels. The transitions, the evolving passages, the metric and the virtuous display on instruments join to achieve togetherness. And what to say about Andy Tillison's work on the novel within... wonderful!

So, I humbly ask for your opinion, for your reactions and your feelings towards this album.

Cheers!

Id call it a masterpiece but I dont like to go to such absolutes as best of 2008/10 years/ever etc, though I do think it is the best of the Tangent so far.

An amazing album! Didn't catch me right off the bat, but with repeated listens it's easy to say that this is THE album of 2008 in my opinion. Absolutely stunning from start to finish, easily The Tangent's best output - maybe it's because the subject matter was so personal to Tillison.

Enough for my ranting; time for a shameless self promotion:

For me, both Tillison/Manning epics made for the La Voce Del Vento project, are much better than any THe Tangent album, includng the latest one, which for me is not as good as the bands 2 previous offerings!

I need to hear it first. I like "A place in the queue" though.

I have much to learn it appears.

I would say it's a near-masterpiece. One of the best releases of 2008, one of the band's best (second only to A Place in the Queue for me) and just all around a great record. For the purposes of this poll, I'll say "A True Masterpiece."

There must have been a choice between "True Masterpiece" and "Good, but nothing special". Because, I do think it has special stuff, but it isn't a masterpiece, excellent album an improvement over A Place in the Queue IMO.

I dont know I was impresed the first time I heard it.  it's not a bad album but the singer's voice is awful. If we compare it with other 2008 releases Magenta's Metamorphosis is much better.

Totally agree Cacho. It is indeed a huge improvement over APITQ.  NAGATB has become my fave out of the entire dicography by The Tangent

Sure, I'm thinking that something like the "Excellent Addition" rate over the reviews on the PA could've gone in between those two options you mention, and that kind of opinions and points of view from you guys is what I expected in return from this poll.

Tnx!

Wish you would have had an option for being good and pretty special but not a true masterpiece.  That would have been my vote.

My review states that it is a killer, so then it is . Far from an eternal masterpiece but frankly, as soon as Jonas Reingold shows up, I start drooling.. A very, very good 5 star job . Confused

Your review was the one that made me want the album in the first place, and you did not mislead me Clap

God forbid, I ever lead you astray ! I figured if you dig Geddy's bass , how can you not go gaga over Jonas. I listen to all Tangent albums with the bass as the conductor, I it is mindblowing . Forget Tillison's soso voice, its not that bad ! Embarrassed

If the vocals are listenable, unlike "A place in the Queue" then it MUST be  a step in the right direction

I'll admit again that I love Tillison's voice. Don't know what everyone hates about it Confused. Although DIY Surgery was... er... odd - was Tillison even singing on that one?

Anywhat, yes! Mr. Reingold is a fantastic bass-man, I can really appreciate him in all his works Clap

^^His voice is just uninspiring, so the music saves it for me. He doesn't have the worst voice, but just very nasally and flat. When he gets on those really dramatic moments he'll end each phrase with a growl. Maybe don't take the mic away from him completely, but give Jakko some more mic time.

Good, but nothing special. I like A Place in the Queue and The Music that Died Alone better.
