I went with Can. I am only discovering Opeth as of late.
Tago Mago is one of my fav albums as well.

Finally I've gone with Opeth. The reason? Opeth is hard to better at what they do. Great flow, tons of melody, really impressive playing all round with a keen sense for balance, each song having a distinctive character. And they're well capable of tearing it up.
Can are loads of fun as well, they're your mindscrew party music. Again, impressive playing, each song has a distinctive character etc. etc. Fun to dance around to and sing along with Mooney or Suzuki. Only the mindscrew part is relatively lightweight. Even the likes of' 'Aumgn' or 'Peking O', impressive as they are, are more funny than anything else. Can are a good soundtrack for the silly, whimsical moments; to get your brain fried look elsewhere.

Or you could make an anti-symphonic thread.

Chalk and cheese!
Neither would be in my top 10 bands, but going on album count, I have 2 by Can (Ege Bamyasi and Tago Mago), but several more by Opeth (Blackwater Park, Damnation, Deliverance, Ghost Reveries, Morningrise, Still Life & Watershed) so I guess I'm plumping for Opeth!
Just saw that Tangerine Dream got done by ELP - oh woe is me (and that's after Camel getting kicked out too)!

that's another toughie... 2 in a row... I really dig both groups...
going with Can as several have for innovation and originality.. since they cancel out in in preference.. just depends upon the mood.

My vote goes to Can. Tago Mago and Egy Bamyasi are krautrock masterpieces.

I like both, but CAN is more orginal, influencial and experimental. So they get my vote.

I enjoy Can, but do not enjoy Opeth. Therefore, I vote for Can.

I know Opeth better than Can, and I enjoy them more. However, as my better half pointed out, Can were way more innovative and (*cough cough*) progressive, even if not always easy to swallow. Hopefully Opeth will continue to progress as well, and not become stuck in a rut as many other promising bands have.

both bands are excellent, but I vote for Opeth with no hestitation. They have already made 8 albums or so, showing a great evolution in their music, and they are not going to stop!

While Can are probably the "better" band, I'd still rather listen to Opeth. Neither is a particular favourite of mine though.

hard choice. ive liked opeth for a long time and i really really like blackwater park. Ghost Reveries is pretty good as well. Can however, is a more recent addition to my library. Tago Mago is awesome and LOVE Ege Bamyesi. Future Days hasnt gotten as many listens but so far it sounds great. the sounds are so different in almost every way and this makes it hard to chose but im gonna go with CAN. a more influential band, a more important, daring, i think just all around better band. but man, very hard decision.
