I can't stand growling, and some of my favorite bands/artists are King's X, Neal Morse/Spock's Beard, and Kansas/Kerry Livgren.  I also liked Stryper and Petra (where Ty Tabor and Dug Pinnick of King's X met) back in the day, although admittedly cheesy hair metal.  I'm not a religious person and don't necessarily care for the preaching per se, but I still generally prefer the message delivered in Christian music more than the message delivered in Black/Death/Doom metal.

LOL

that's entirely possible.. how about a track called 'Legion' telling the story about casting the demons out of the madman, into the herd of pigs... there's bound to be some growling (and squealing...Ermm) in that one...Wink
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

^ I suspect that I probably would not like Christian Death Metal Growls either.  I don't suspect that there are any examples of that though.

Growling for me. Which is odd coming out of my mouth... since I hated them years ago.

Don't like Death Metal at all and despite I'm a Catholic, I don't like the Christian lyrics created for Evangelistic purpose.

ULTIMATE FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check out Becoming the archtype, all their lyrics are christian, and even their name suggests christianity. Also Callisto, a post metal group with equally christian lyrics. Dirge, thepost/drone doom band is alseo very christian with one song that repeats "talk to jesus". Also, the hugely popular Devil Wears prada, the US metalcore band is just as big on christianity.

Whatch what you say.

There are at least thousands of Christian Death Metal bands and Unblack metal bands across the world.

I find most Christian music (ESPECIALLY the soft rock/alternative stuff that my church sang) to be terribly uninspired....I think anytime you have a singular topic for all of your lyrics it will start to wear itself thin rather quickly

That's exactly what's the problem with many Christian bands. The lyrics would be better and more convincing if Christianity was not the topic of the song, but something that shows through in how the topic is presented.

(The good thing about death metal growls is that it doesn't matter what the topic is because it's impossible for anyone to decipher the lyrics.)

GeneralizationDead

I've had little trouble making out the lyrics in Opeth in the death growl vocal sections.

Mortification is one example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortification_(band), along with many bands along the 'metalcore' lines such as Zao, Underoath and Norma Jean.

Go figure.  One would think if there was one subject matter that wouldn't be breached with black/death/doom metal vocals it would be Christian music.  Of course, I suppose I thought the same about regular metal music and then Stryper came along.  Evil%20Smile
