Their current direction inspires me, in that they still obviously love what they do, and are top notch musicians. However, it also leaves me a little unfulfilled. I think Grace Under Pressure was the last Rush album, which for me, didn't have a single weak track. Every album since, has boasted some absolute belters, but many songs have just passed me by, and left very little stamp on my memory at all.

They were the band that got me into prog, and as a teenager I was obsessed with them. I'll always buy and enjoy what they produce, but I dont feel what they do now is a patch on what they were doing up to and including GUP. It's not a prog thing. It's simply a good song thing..

I've lost interest after Signals, they started sounding too much like Mr. Mister

^ must be the cookie monster vocals on ... nope, that's not it.

In response to the original post, my response won't be of much help, since  I am a fan of almost everything that has come out of the Rush camp, including Snakes and Arrows, with Snakes and Arrows definitely getting the most spins of all the Rush albums in my collection since its arrival.

if they would of continue recording albums like "hold Your fire" I would gave up on them 20 years ago, but Thank God they didn't. when Counter Part came Out I came back as a  big fan and I haven't  stop ever since. I usually don't compare todays Rush with their earlier material or their 70's stuff I just like them  as they are  "a good band" I really don't care if their album is Prog or just Pure hard rock as long I like it that it really matter. they are so many bands out there supposedly are prog albums and are so boring. Good music comes in many forms and Rush is a king of that.

I think it is almost impossible to have geddy lee sing cookie monster vocals. That would be interesting to see.

I definitely enjoy modern Rush, and I don't care if it's prog or not. In my view, there are only two kinds of music: good and bad (or, if you prefer, the one I like and the one I don't). Moreover, as I have often stated around the forums, in some ways I prefer Rush's Nineties output to what they did in the Seventies (with some notable exceptions, of course). They are still one hell of a band, and their live shows are hugely entertaining.

My favourite period in the history of Rush goes from "A Farewell to Kings" to "Moving Pictures". Actually, all albums from "Caress of Steel" to "Signals" are inspiring. "Hold Your Fire" contains some good songs too.
After that, it went rapidly down the drain and after the disappointing "Roll the Bones" I paid no further attention to Rush. However, I've heard a few good songs from later albums ...

 I was just like you
but give a try to counterpart, Test for echo and their last one you will enjoy them a lot believe me.it is a shame that Alex doesn't solo and changed his style forever but Rush music is still very powerful and great not as much Prog was there but  great rock tunes. Test for Echo is an awesome album from start to finish.

All it sounded like me was a bunch of older guys trying to be hip and modern, failing to realize that the modern rock scene is stagnant and uninteresting (and they did nothing to change it). Far Cry, maybe the most likable song, goes on for way too long (like most of the album's tracks), repeating the chorus countless times (which King Crimson amusingly blasted in "Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With"). The guitars just sound distorted and muddy and lack variety. The songs sound the same. "The Main Monkey Business" goes absolutely nowhere. The drumming has become uninspiring. "Malignant Narcissism" may have been decent if it weren't for the generic drum patterns. While I appreciate and agree with Peart's lyrics, I feel they were clumsily and bluntly written. It was really a let down to have to sit through 9 S&A songs at the concert and it looked like the rest of the crowd did too. Even in Vapor Trails songs the crowd was excited, but once an S&A song began, the crowd was virtually silent. It's just boring music.

got to agree with Kestrel here. S&As while being a good album for an average band is a samey so-so album for Rush. I too went to the concert with an even bigger Rush fan in Manchester widely hailed as the best in the UK run and was very disappointed. Went to Milan in 2005 which was the dogs bo****ks apart from the encores from Feedback. so like Vapor trails a lot but S&As is just boring to me. sorry guys
was that just an Am augmented minor 9th i heard? nice!

To be honest I've only bought 2112 up to Moving Pictures, as well as the replayx3 DVD collection, and while 2112-pictures is a perfect run of albums I don't really want to branch out and try any other Rush albums.

Good move, nothing worth a damn has come out of branching out and trying something new. Especially nothing in music.
