Chris, I completely agree. My father has also been besmirching the news coverage about the US General Elections.
However, I'm also fed up with the news about that poor lass who died at Swindon's Great Western Hospital, which happened 4 years ago and only seems to have reached National news when the trial began, whilst it's been all over my local news for almost a month now, so it's almost old news to me. |

Oh yes, dont get me started on news agendas..
![]() Th race for the Whitehouse, I do find interesting and like to be kept informed, but as Chris says, has nothing else happened in the world of late? In Israel, the first suicide bomber struck in over a year, the other day. The Israeli army bulldozed a mosque in Jerusalem, roadside bombs are going off every day in Iraq and Afghanistan is no picnic either, but you generally have to go looking for this news. It's not widely repoprted any more in the UK, certainly not on prime time news. The emphasis has shifted to stories about individuals and their brave fight against some health authority, in order to get hold of a drug for their life threatening condition. Whilist I dont want to play down the seriousness of their plight, it's not really news. It's a regional item at best. Warning: Rant incoming... The BBC has dumbed down to the level of ITV, promoting shows with twirling news readers in ball gowns on ice, replacing documenataries, quality drama, music and comedy. Moron TV for a nation of fat ignorant morons, who like nothing better than a diet of KFC, Holby City and anything with that complete tw&t Graham Norton. I cant believe also that Lenny Henry has made it back on to BBC TV. Who let that happen?? Is that lobotomised studio audience paid to laugh at his inane, insipid observations on life? You'd have to pay me a ![]() Last night Horizon, which used to be the flagship BBC documentary. was all about drugs and how ghastly they are for us. I hate this moral drum banging, and I hate the way they round up a load of idiots off the streets and ask them to take part in a test to prove how binge drinking has ![]() |

^ Norton is an odious little tyke; a self congratualting media whore, whose ugly boat seems to turn up on every other program at the moment. He's like one of those huge turds that wont flush away..
As for Lenny Henry he was at his peak in Tiswas, and even then he was outshined by Bob Carolgese and the Phantom Flan Flinger.. |

^ Now that's a bloody good rant, Mr Garten. Superb!
I have to concur, especially with the bit about the use of effects, and people in labcoats, trying to validate the inane assertion the program is making. ..AND why is it that when they show a 'talking head' it's as though the camera man is p!ssed and lying on his side? The 'talking head' is always off set to the left or right of the screen, and the camera is practically up their nostril. On Horizon last night, they were talking to this drugs 'expert' and the camera and lighting made her look like Gene Simmons without the make up, and they were so close you could almost see food trapped between her teeth!.. |

Although I agree with you, Andy, I thought Horizon the week before was very good (all about Gravity) and the series called Atom is also excellent.
However, they've moved The Sky at Night to BBC 3 (or is it 4?) now, which means those of us without Digital are screwed (I have access to Digital though). I also think there's some good comedy around, I know Jim doesn't like it, but The Mighty Boosh is great and there's another comedy on Thursday evenings that I also think is very good (so good, I've forgotten the name of it). Generally though, I agree, I find myself watching BBC 3 or 4 or maybe Dave, more and more now. Edited by Geck0 - February 06 2008 at 15:41 |

The Mighty Boosh is pretty cool ![]() I imagine when we've all switched over, they'll churn out the usual pap on all channels.. ![]() It's the documentary style I think I object to more than anything else; all the fast camera crap, and sound effects to dramatise the subject matter. I remember one documentary about how the twin towers collapsed, and it was presented like it was entertainment. That really p!ssed me off when I watched it. |

I agree, except for one thing: have you heard him on Just A Minute? He was on the other week and was actually pretty good - at times reminiscent of the late, great Kenneth Williams. Of course, as it's on good old Radio 4 we don't have to look at the revolting little t**ser, and on JAM he's surrounded by people who are mostly cleverer than he is so he's kept in his place.
