I'll have to think Ivan (Trickster) for showing me this band as well as a couple others that I now highly enjoy.

I haven't heard much of this genre, but I'm on it.  I've still yet to listen to Unexpected and Ephel Duath, but I'll try to prioritize this.

Seriously.  Pure classy metal. I suggest starting with   "The Painter's Palette"   It is crutial to enjoy crazy up tempo & jazzy style playing to enjoy it though.

I enjoy listening to Mike Patton's projects, especially Mr Bungle and Faith No More (not the most avant-garde but still, Mike Patton)

Arcturus are awesome too, and there's a band from the Netherlands called Freak Neil Inc, also, great avant garde metal.
I can't really get into "over-psycho" bands like Naked City, or other projects of John Zorn. it's way too much crazy.
Sorry if i have spelling mistakes, english is not my mother tongue.

I personally like Suspended Animation more, but they're mostly in the same vein....although that may not be the best recommendation for someone who doesn't want something "too crazy" LOL

they're kinda a mishmash of every style

California's probably their most normal album but it's also my favorite
I like the other two though I haven't listened in a while
if something's annoying with them take it as tongue in cheek because thats basically how they are

Any discussion involving Mike Patton and metal has to include a nod to his incredible collaboration EP with the Dillinger Escape Plan - "Irony Is A Dead Scene". That stuff is insane ... chaotic, violent, and bizarre. The track "When Good Dogs Do Bad Things" is intensely awesome.

If you haven't given them a try yet, Secret Chiefs 3!
 
Trey Spruance does a wicked job with these albums, that still have the genre-hopping of Mr. Bungle just focused more around arabic type music (they also sound a lot like estradasphere off your list there).
 
Also, try John Zorn's stuff (starting with Naked City, which is downright jaw-dropping)
