For me the best song ever is the live version (Seconds Out) of the Cinema Show from Genesis.

I'm going with you, I saw that song live and it's never been the same (it was amazing even before I saw it live)

Oh no, you got me there. Me too.
It's the hand clapping, gotta be the hand clapping and the banjo solo.
Among everything else.

It is certainly difficult to determine which song is the best because it constantly changes when I listen to another masterpiece of progressive rock. However, Harmonium - Lumières de vie is probably one of my best progressive rock song!

Yes -  The Gates of Delirium

It's just an absolute roller-coaster, there's nothing like it.  Yes at their freakiest (only matched by "The Ancient on TFTO).  They were best when they were freaky or funky, or both (which I find is the case with Gates).

A close second, however, is Larks' Tongues In Aspic, Part Two.  I just love all that 10/8 stuff; it grooves nicely.

That is indeed a great one.  I'll follow your suit with a Canterbury Scene one. I'll say, ah, Robert Wyatt's "Little Red Riding Hood Hit the Road" or "Little Red Robin Hood Hit the Road"  -- was considering a John Greaves one.

Ooooo...excellent choice.  Hogarth's scream at the 1:45 mark is one of my favorite moments in all of music.
