Yes, the others I really don't care for lyrics wise.

Van der Graaf Generator... Peter Hammill is a godlike vocalist and lyricist, in second place I'd say either Pink Floyd (Waters) or Genesis

I am totally right with you JROCHA, where is Tool?
And from the list I also pick out Pink Floyd.
Have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it.

I am actually amazed Yes get so many votes here; they never struck me for their excellent lyrics

Me neither.

Since I just c ame up with one in another thread, how about doing some lyric parodies? Here is what I just came up with:

"Close to the Loo" by No

"A seasoned chili calls you from the depth within your bowels,
you rearrange your liver with so many gastric howls,
then drown it all with red wine that came quickly in a jar,
then taste the juice of grapes fermented losing all your wits for hours.
And digesting points just one way, leading ev'ry single one,
A wet fart can embarrass you, the music of your own,
then franticly within your chair you move
and choose the course you're running

Down through the aisle, round by the corner,
close to the loo, just to the toilet.
Not right away, not right away.

Crossed the floor down to the rest'rant toilet,
Reaching out to test the handle of each booth,
Passing almost out as I stripped down my panties to the knees.
Bending over just before I had to worry,
Letting out my breakfast far from far behind,
I relieved the tension only to find out no paper's there!

Down in the booth, just on the toilet,
Close to the wipe, just need a paper!
Seasons have done their work,
I get up, I get down,
Now that it's out, now that it's done,
Now that I find there is no roll!"
Or whatever the lyrics of "Close to the Edge" are. LOL

Yes over King Crimson? Listen to Fallen Angel and see if any Yes song even comes close.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

-Roger Waters

Rush definitely deserves a mention for this, as do Jethro Tull, but I can't see anyone except Roger Waters winning this poll. And I'd still vote for him. I don't (and never will) find Yes' lyrics more than passable. Too nonsensical and abstract for me.

I am speechless!   That was really funny ... do another one, if you feel like it that is.
I don't normally like crude humour, but ... whatever.

In my mind, no one can beat Genesis lyrics. All the word-play and little subtle goodies!

BaldFriede, that was absolutely brilliant! CTTE will never sound the same again! Now could you do something like that with Pete Hammill as well?

Please do not quote complete lyrics from songs, by doing so you are in breach of copyright.

BF, I think you may have started something there!!LOL

Very difficult. From the narrative and imaginative, often mithological style of Peter Gabriel, and the lyrics influenced by religion ( Jon Anderson - Yes), i prefer the cynical spirit of Roger Waters. Pink Floyd for me.
