For a very, very long time I'd have voted Genesis -- Turn it on Again.

But I'm going to have to switch to Roundabout.

Oh heck, Magma isn't THAT unlikeable.  Just grab MDK and promise yourself you'll listen to the whole thing at least twice through before you pass judgement.

Henry Cow - Beautiful as the Moon, Terrible as an Army with Banners

My favourite culmination of the accessible experimental anti-rock thing featuring one of my favourite singers and perhaps possessing of the most ethereal atmosphere possible.

(and non-prog: Hi-Posi - Moon River. groan if you know it.)

Clap, the climax of this song is so great, with the two pianos!

Yes - Starship Trooper.

My fav. song is from Insomnium, a melodeath band with doom and prog influences that not many people know of.

Last Statement - Insomnium, especially the last two minutes (with solo) are breathtaking.

Well I'll narrow it down to Genesis, but then it's a toss-up between The Musical Box (Genesis Live version), Supper's Ready and The Cinema Show.  I really can't pick between these.
Casting doubt on all I have to say...

I would also go for Musical Box.  For me, it defines prog.

Since 1970 i've been aware of having a 'favourite song of all time'.

My rule is that a song has to be my favourite for six months before it replaces the previous one.  These songs have been:

1970: Spoonful (Wheels of Fire) - Cream
1973: Suppers Ready - Genesis
1982: Jungleland - Springsteen
1986: Spoonful (Wheels of Fire) - Cream
1991: Always the Way - James Reyne
1999: Refugees - Van Der Graaf Generator
2004: Suppers Ready - Genesis

My Generation (Live at Leeds version) nearly took top spot last year but didn't quite pass the six month rule.

Although it is blues-rock this version of Spoonful has so much structure that it is hard to imagine that they really were just jamming.

I've never quite understood why Echoes is so much more highly-rated than Atom Heart Mother.  I've given Echoes so many listens, especially because of its insistent reputation among Floyd and prog fans, but it remains a 4-star decent epic for me.

From the very first moment I heard Atom Heart I understood that music will not ever get better than this...over a decade later I still believe this.
