Give us some time with this addition. There are some things we need to clear up before we keep adding bands like Battles to the archives.

I just sampled some of their album, IMO I can't find a reason not to include them, I think they sound like they'd fit in under Crossover or Eclectic prog, a strong ELP influence on them, but yet different enoguh not to fall under the trap that Flower Kings, Spock's Beard and others have fallen under by not being idiosyncratic enough.

I would also support their addition to the site, though under which category - I don't know. It would be useful to finally determine where math-rock-ish bands should go. As we all know, they're currently all over the place.

If you're really keen on having new bands on this site, I would recommend you to use a different tone when suggesting their addition. Personally, I would consider NOT adding a band that was suggested in such a rude way. This is very offensive to those people who work for FREE on behalf of this site.

That said, the Heavy Prog team has taken Battles into due consideration, but (as my teammate Atavachron already said) thought they would be more suited to another subgenre. Rest assured we're not keeping them out of PA on purpose.

Certainly for adding them, Mirrored is a great, progressive album. Excellent use of sound, timbre, and experimentation.
With the limited genres, I'd probably say Experimental/Post Rock would suit them well because most bands similar to them on PA are there.

I have no doubt Battles will eventually be here...  if no new Avant categories emerge, they could still be put in either Avant or PostRock (at times they remind of Tortoise but with a more minimal sound and heavier guitar)

Battles are much more than a math rock band...

They do deserve to be here in PA, but at the moment it's quite hard to put them under one of the existing genres in PA.

I remember already checking this band for Art Rock (there was a thread containing many bands and suggestions), and didn't like them or found them progressive enough. Atavachron on the other hand likes the band and may want its addition.

Of course, if the Experimental Team decides checking it up for their genre, that's out of Art Rock's league.

Experimental Post Math Rock?Tongue

Pretty much, although Math rock as a genre apart could be nice...

Yes. Yes it would.

I enjoy them quite a bit, but the music isn't as dynamic as I like it to be.  Some of their song sections go on for a bit longer than "necessary."

Can't say I like them much (assumption based on Mirrored only), but they definitly have quality to increase the ranks of Experimental/Post-Rock.
Bigger on the inside.

Well you've come to the right place. They will be added to the list from here when Mystic Fred picks this up.

Well, Mirrored finally came out, and it's every bit as good as I thought it would be.

We really need to get these guys onto the site.  Anyone know how to?

World Class Listening Problem is a great album, one of their best.

I'm glad to be getting such a positive response from everyone with these guys.

Bro, I'd suggest grabbing EP C as well.  It's just as, if not better than the B Ep.

Heck, get all their stuff, it's not a whole lot (unfortunatly.)
