Atkingani, so many Latin-American progheads here on Prog Archives, I cannot imagine that I, as a Dutch proghead, am one of the few who is able to purchase DVD's from Quaterna Requiem and Tarkus  ....?

Thanks for the answer Erik, and yes, the thread is alive again...
This afternoon I listened Exsimio's first album and it's quite good. And they say Carbono 14 is better...next album to by.
And now I'm just submitting the review of Tryo's second album "Crudo".

Well Atkingani and other Latin-American progheads in this thread: when I was eight years old, I had already a poster with the Amazone area in my room and I was carried away with picures from the capibara, the jaguar and the 3-fingered sloath, that was the start of my fascination for Latin-America and the climax will be in 2010 when me an dmy wife will celebrate th 20th anniversary of our marriage with a visit to Macchu Picchu in Peru and our foster child in Bolivia  ... any good record stores there?

Do the travel via Rio de Janeiro and you two won't forget and you will get a lot of prog CDs! 
Anyway, I'm in a moment of trying to rescue part of the SudAm prog past... checking Serú Girán, Sui Generis, Terreno Baldio, etc. A cluster of hidden gems, I may tell you!

That's what happens with South American prog: there's no interest. Doesn't matter how good it is, people are more interested on the well known European or North American bands (I'm talking especially to those of us who live in these lands) rather than weird bands from this side of the world.
Primarly for that reason there are so little channels and opportunities to these bands, and it's so difficult to be a musician (a prog one) in these countries.

How frustrating Proglodita, so many great new Latin-American progrock bands like William Gray, Nexus, Quaterna Requiem, Tarkus, Diapasao, Astralis, Seti and I am still waiting for the inclusion of the splendid band Vlad V For me it's also frustrating that it's becoming more and more mainstream on Prog Archives, there is an obvious lack of adventure but that's part of the current society in which most people prefer to be served rather than show an adventurous mind.

Well, the problem here in Brazil isn't properly the music coming from outside but the quality of the music done inside on which I cannot get in.
Check the list of best-seller CDs for 2007 (my comments in blue):

Yesterday I bought the Quaterna's DVD...Just one word: Awesome! They are very good musicians, specially Elisa Wiermann, she's so energetic and deep.

True! It's so sad, but as Erik said, I think it's a 'worldwide problem'.
About your question, Erik, I think Chile is a country with excellent progressive today.
I just know two bands from the seventies:
CONGRESO (like Cuncuna remebered)
LOS JAIVAS (that I really really like!)
Today there are a lot of bands:
The ones I know:
AKINETÓN RETARD (very good)
JAIME ROSAS CUARTETO (excellent)
MATRAZ (I just know 3 songs via their website. I don't like prog-metal, But I have to say this is very good).
FULANO (excellent fusion)

Well Prog-Brazil, I am jealous concerning Brasilian progrock sensation Tarkus, I have their live DVD, one of the best progrock items of the last 5 years, great, especially the Minimoog flights but also the awesome interplay and the enthousiasm
About Chile, also worth to check out: Blops (Seventies) and new bands Ergo Sum, Seti and Astralis, see my reviews
By the way, I read about the idea to add Congreso to Prog Archives, in my opinion Vlad V is way more interesting, any Latin-American proghead agrees?

Here’s a Brasilian quartet that was founded in ’86, the name is derived from a hero in the Roman history. The band is Jean Carlo (vocals, flute, guitar, violin, banjo and harmonica), Beto Luciani (guitar and violin), Claudio Reif (bass), Jairson Dorigatti (keyboards and accordeon) and Flavio Theilacher (keyboards and percussion). It lasted until the early Nineties to make a serie of records: “Vlad V” (’94), “Espada e o dragao” (’96), “O quinto sol” (’99) and “Volume IV” (2003). The most obvious influences are JETHRO TULL and FOCUS (swirling fluteplay) but in general their sound is quite unique with passionate Portuguese vocals.
The third album “O quinto sol” is a pleasant blend of several styles (folk, blues, rock, prog) with the use of many instruments (violin, flute, acoustic – and electric guitars, bandolin, mouth-organ). The compositions are melodic and alternating, from dreamy with folky instruments till up-tempo with heavy guitarwork.
The fourth album “Volume IV” is in the vein of the third but has more hints from JETHRO TULL (even some covers). Most of the compositions sound pleasant with many shifting moods (even an Eastern climate) but some heavier tracks lack fresh ideas, a bit too much from the same. Nonetheless this is a promising progrock band.

Well, I don't know Vlad V...
But Congreso, I've always wondered if it deserves a site on progarchives, but considering that already have it Jorge Campos (a member of Congreso (or maybe former member, I'm not sure)), Fulano or La Media Banda, which I think they are more fusion than prog... And Congreso is very Similar to Los Jaivas...
It's good to see good words about chilean bands. This thuersday I'll go to an Octopus show (my second one, but the first since I have its album Bonsai). Really good prog metal.

SAECVLA SAECVLORUM, a legendary band with a sole album released 1976 are rejoining again!!!
Saecvla revealed the amazing violinist Marcus Vianna who later would become leader of SAGRADO CORAÇÃO DA TERRA. Let's hope the reunion will be achieved really.

I think Congreso should be in PA.
Maybe in Prog-related category. At least the albuns I know seems to me traditional pop with prog influences:
