Experimental/Post rock Appreciation Threa

I would really like to see Envy here, I have their whole discogaphy. I haven't gone through it for a looooong time but I need to. But "...Story" wouldn't hinder an induction imo. I'll post here what their other stuff is like sometime lol.

Insomniac Doze is so so great. Def get more albums. :) This album is still my fave post-rock after such a long time. It's the newness of post-rock with these vocals. Crystallize is so beautiful.

Formed in 1991-92, Envy has been one of the most prominent acts of the Japanese Hardcore scene. Over the years the band slowly were polishing their sound and adding a Post-Rock influences not too far from that of Mono or Mogwai while still being at heart a Hardcore / Screamo band. The combination of these two genres (Screamo and Post-Rock) can be better heard in their latest releases and most notably their 2006 release, "Insomniac Doze", where screaming vocals are accompanied by intense climaxes and spoken words take place side by side with soft guitar textures. All of this is wrapped up in an dramatic and emotional melodies.

They've released various singles and albums through different labels and have toured with Isis, This Machine Kills, Mogwai and Yaphett Kotto. They have also made several split albums with other Screamo / Post-Hardcore bands.

If you've never been a fan of the Screamo genre, but enjoy the intensity and grandiosity of post-rock bands then Envy is the band to get you into the genre.


Recommended for fans of: Mono, Caspian, Mogwai, Laura, Callisto, Isis and other thundering post-rock bands.

"Israel doesn't necessarily come to mind as a rock & roll nation -- and neither does Lebanon, but that's the name chosen by the quartet originally from Tel Aviv. The core of the group came together in the early 2000s when guitarists/samplers Avinoam Sternheim and Juval Haring initially formed a two-person effort called the Noisy Mornings , which barely squeaked out an EP before collapsing, as the two had to serve their mandatory national service in the Israeli army for some years. Toward the middle of 2005, having left the military behind them, the duo met bassist Avishy Londner and drummer Adam Katz , who together swiftly coalesced under the Lebanon name. With an aim for the kind of instrumental epic drama that groups like Slint and Mogwai had made famous, Lebanon quickly began building up a reputation for itself via shows in its home country as well as releasing an initial EP of demo cuts, as well as following the now de rigueur approach of building an Internet fan base worldwide via sites like MySpace. Great to see As The Poets Affirm now here. I think they were one of my suggests from a while ago [mind you I did suggest about thirty bands, so I cannot really remember]. Might put their two albums I have on to refresh my memory, I think I quite liked them.

Maserati is a band formed in Athens, Georgia, United States in 2000 by Coley Dennis, Matthew Cherry, Steven Scarborough and Phillip Horan. Their music can be seen as a combination of Post-Rock, Progressive Rock and Psychedelic Rock with a few hints of Krautrock. They self-released their first album "37:29:24" in 2001. They also released several albums and a collaboration with The Mercury Program on their now-defunct Kindercore record label. In 2004 drummer Phillip Horan left the band and was replaced by Jerry Fuchs, member of several bands like !!!, Turing Machine and LCD Soundsystem. After 3 years of silence they released their first album with their new line-up in 2007 called "Inventions For The New Season".

Recommended for fans of: Turing Machine, fans of Pink Floyd's One Of These Days and post-rock groups that know how to rock well. They're fans of krautrock so that counts for something too.

Up-C Down-C Left-C Right-C ABC + Start is a band formed in Kent, United Kingdom in the year 2000. They started self-releasing their music in 2001 with their first attempt at a debut called 'So.We.Bo'. It was a limited release, but the band never really liked it so the album never had a proper release. After that they self-released and EP called 'Watch With Mother' which was recorded on a 4-track. In 2002 they kept releasing EPs and in 2003 they made their second attempt at a debut which was called 'Taken From The Evil To Come'. This release was a double album with all of the material they've recorded since then (not counting their 'So.We.Bo'). They released several other EPs and a split with Candy Sniper later that year. This is where they started to pick some steam and in 2004 they signed to Tap N Tin. In early 2005 they released their first official 7" single called 'Stand shadowless like silence/Sadako's fury'. After that they went for a live Xfm session with John Kenedy in May and recorded their second single, 'Shallows', which was released in August. Their first official debut was released in October of the same year. After years of polishing their sound the work paid off. Their debut 'And The Battle Is Won' got alot of attention and had rave reviews all around the net and magazines. It also managed to get in many top lists of best Post-Rock album of 2005. In 2006 they went to record their follow-up, 'Embers' which is stated to be released in late 2007.

Recommended for fans of: Mogwai, From Monument To Masses, My Education.

Like I said somewhere else, this is a wicked name to a powerful looking band, I'll definitely search for music of it.

MOUNTAIN MEN ANONYMOUS*

Mountain Men Anonymous is a band formed Cardiff, South Glamorgan, Wales in the year 1999. At the beginning of the year 2000, two of the original members of the band left and then where replaced by Lorna. Later that year, they released their self-titled EP. In 2001 they released their self-titled debut and a 7" single split with Teflon Monkeys. Between 2001 and 2004 Lorna left the band and the group stayed as a trio. Sam, John and Adam continued making music and in 2004 they released their album called "Krkonose" which is their most known around indie circles. Mountain Men Anonymous' sound can be seen as a mix of electronica, trip-hop and post-rock. They are currently on "indefinite hiatus." Two members of the band, Sam and John, went on to form another band called Zail.

Recommende for fans of:  God Is An Astronaut, 65Daysofstatic (but more subtle), Trip-hop, electronica.
