last week I played with the drone group again (i don't know if you remember me talking about this a while ago) but this time we got a recording of it. It was a straight 45 minutes set. I played cello and clarinet. We had a guitarist, analog synth, synth drone, percussion, vocal effects.

The whole show is up here, split into 4 tracks :

Of course we remember, I listened through the work earlier this morning.

A great concert scott! Please past my compliments on to the rest of the guys. Your sound kind of reminds me of a split album I have between Organum & Eddie Prévost called Crux/Flayed, this is mostly strongly through the more ambient parts.

What sort of analog sythn are you guys using?

Are there any of ideas of making documentations of your music in hard copies?

Black Velvet (i'm sorry.. I don't know your first name),
Thank you very very much for the kind words. I've never heard of either of those artist, but will do my best to locate that album right now.

I'm actually not sure what synth he was using, but the constant drone was coming from my Casio Privia.

I also know that they do have hard copies of it, and if you want to send them a message on that myspace (if you have one, if you don't I can do it for you)...

I really need to post here more... I post mostly over at the dreamtheater boards, but they're all assholes, haha. You guys are actually nice.
So thank you again for listening, and I'll get you more information on the copy of it, if you want.
I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

Hey guys

I just listened to the Dirty Three debut, early post-rock, lots of sound fusion, a great violin play (almost the first touch that will lead to Trudeau's master-string, later on GYBE, Silver Mt. Zion etc. Cool), dark vibes and very interesting marks of music. A bit stretchy and long, a bit noisy and out-of-experimentalism, yet good and fisting.

BPT, Excellent concert!! I really like it! I think my favorite part is the third one, but the whole thing was great. Clap

Is there anyway I could get the concert in mp3 or something?

Haha, I have a feeling a lot of Dream Theater fans wouldn't be too interested in conversing about drone!

I've actually been tossing up the option of purchasing an analog synth for sometime now.

I will send a message their way sometime soon. I will also send you a sample of the Organum track. I'm not sure what all their material is like as this is my first album by the band. The Eddie Prévost is a little different, he was the drummer/percussionist for the improv band AMM.

BTW my first name is Adam.

Thanks for the kind word, chamb.
I'm workign right now on getting a hard copy for myself from the leader of the bad (we're all just selected for individual concerts... that was the first time I had played with any of them besides the guitarist [leader]) and then I can get you an mp3. The third is my favourite as well.

And thanks for that track, Adam, I'm listening now.

Daturah - Daturah

Heard them all except Triosk.

I've heard September Malevolence once and I found them a bit boring though, but that may be probably because I wasn't paying to much attention to them while listening to their album.

I enjoyed Sweek more than September Malevolence the first time I heard it. They're one of those GYBE clones, but I have to admit they're better than the ones I've heard and they have more variety in their themes ("Tequila Fitness Club" springs to mind).

And I just recently reviewed Daturah's album so there are my thoughts on it. Great album. I think I enjoy them more than the other two bands.

How's Triosk?

Anyone knowledgable on A Lily?

It is a side project from James Vella of Yndi Halda. I like Yndi Halda's EP from 2005, so I thought this might sound interesting [maybe not]. Should be interesting to hear if it is any good.

A Lily - Wake:Sleep (June 19, 2006)

http://www.myspace.com/alily I have not listened to the samples yet, will sample in the morning.

Sorry rushaholic, but I haven't heard of them, although I've heard good things from them.

Adam: http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=15316
Wake:Sleep is a beautiful album and it has a warm and nostalgic feeling to it. I really enjoyed it, but the las song, "The Shipwreck", was a bit too much.

Also,

Here's the latest addition to the post-rock genre:

September Malevolence

September%20Malevolence*%20picture

September Malevolence is a post-rock band from Gothenburg, Sweden formed in February of 2004. The first line-up of the band was Tommy Andersson, Mattias Carlsson, Martin Lundmark, Tobias Netshagen. They recorded their first EP in 2004 called "Surviving Destinies" and a year later their album debut "Tomorrow We'll Wonder Where This Generation Gets Its Priorities From". Their album got alot of positive remarks and even appeared on top lists of best instrumental acts from that year. After they made an European tour their guitarist left the band and after another European tour their drummer left the band also, but they still kept touring. In 2007 they added Johan Ellersten on drums and Johan Björklund guitar to replace the missing members.

I'll be doing this things for now on to keep this thread up and running also to let people know what bands are getting added.

Thanks for the info on A Lily Ruben.

Great work on the additions. I have not really been dedicating to much time to post-rock at this point. But I recently aquired a split album between Godspeed You! Black Emperor & low called Do You Know How To Waltz?. I have not listened it yet, but if any one is interested in some samples just give me a PM.

I will try and get those videos down over the next week or so, they look really good. If they are anything like the A Silver Mt Zion you sent before I'm sold.

Also getting solid rotations in the player is Kammerflimmer Kollektief - Hysteria. I have talked about this German band before, for their interesting fusion of electronics and post-rock. Back then I had only heard one of their later albums. Hysteria comes a little earlier on while the band is highly experiment, sort of crossing electro-acoustics, improv and post-rock. This is really original stuff, which I can happily recommend. Alongside Godspeed they are becoming one of my favourite post-rock bands. While they are not epic in the proportion of many of the other bands, they have superb song writing and amazing textures and atmosphere.

^^^^  I have that Split song as well, but I haven't listened to it either.

As for the videos, I watched the Yndi Halda one  and I really liked it. It's a bit funny seeing those guys so motivated by the music. I almost wet my pants when I found them since I'm a huge fan of them and fans will definitely enjoy it.

I've heard of the name Kammerflimmer Kollektief before. I still haven't heard anything from them, but seeing as you're a big fan of them I'll take a look at them ASAP. Is Hysteria a good album to start with them?

Another band added:

CASPIAN*

Caspian*%20picture

Progressive music sub-genre: Experimental/Post-Rock
Country: United States
Official website: http://www.caspianmusic.net/

Taken from http://www.myspace.com/caspiantheband

When drowning in the appropriate sound, you find yourself achieving the same fundamental effects in your soul as coming up for air has in the body. Caspian is that appropriate sound. An instrumental rock band from Beverly, Massachusetts formed in Autumn of 2003, these four men have crafted a sound that is immediately riveting, emotionally devastating and achingly passionate. Characterized by towering walls of sound, oceanic guitar work and viscious rhythmic elements, Caspian is a band that knows how to imbed itself within the part of you that refuses to easily surrender.

Take a walk around the bands home co-ordinates and you might find some clues. Tan stretches of sand and the infinite blue horizon of the Atlantic could be bigger influences here than anything else. The relentless seasonal cycle might explain the bands desire to cover everything from gentle and placid to furious and destructive, all while maintaining a unified musical sensibility, and a fierce sense of adventure. Live in an area like this and you're bound to create something hopeful, inspiring and downright massive. Caspian wants to bring you to places like this and to places we all haven't seen yet. Let them take you.

Recommended for fans of:
Explosions In The Sky, Russian Circle, Mono, Tone and other guitar oriented post-rock with a heavier tone (no pun intended).

Well I only have two of their albums so far, the other being Absencen. It is more straight forward and could be a better starting place for people who are not so accustomed to Avant-garde leanings. I think Hysteria will be a good starting point, but it will be best for you to make the desicion yourself. Check your inbox in about half

Just briefly flicked through the split song. The first thing most people will notice is the production, not great. The beginning takes on a droney feelings, slowly build climaxing just before the end. Somewhat different sound to what I was expeceting considering each band singularly.

Thanks!

I've heard that the recording was a live bootleg from an European tour. About 30 minutes in length.
