I was looking forward to that release
After that review I have grown extremely hestitant. The thought of it being very heavy is not appealing to me at all. The influences that it mentions are not what I hoped. It seems less prog, more metal, which is exactly what might drive me straight away from this album.

If that review is accurate, then DT has done everything I was hoping they'd do (i.e. focus on the thrash and Floyd influences, don't write cheesy ballads, make the overall vibe dark and heavy without sounding forced, like in some of TOT).

Unfortunately, I doubt that the review paints a good, relatively unbiased picture. The guy is clearly a huge DT fan, perhaps even fanboy Ermm. So, the answer to the question, "Is the new one a masterpiece, or is it DT-lite like tracks 1-7 on Octavarium?" is (IMO) most likely, "somewhere in between".

I hope I'm wrong, and the reviewer is right when he says it's "undoubtedly" their best in "many years".

I don't like the title (Would be really pissed off, if it sounded like Dragonforce or Rhapsody Dead) so let's hope they won't come out with something like "Hey listen here, we can still play METAL!!" just like they did in 2003 when "Train Of Thought" was released....

I will not read a review of that album... with other bands I may do that, but with The Dream, I don't want any ideas to crawl into my mind and act as pre-judgement when I finally get ahold of a copy of the disc.... I want to hear it with open mind and clear ears (better wash them! LOL)... Then I'll write my own review and then I'll read someone else's takes on the record.... If it's so heavy as some say, I probably will be dissapointed.. But I won't allow myself to be dissapointed EVEN BEFORE I actually listen to the album.... I want to have my brain free of pre-conceptions and judge the album according to my parameters...

I can't really take that review too seriously, and I hope none of you will either. That said, I wouldn't mind the mentioned huge Floyd and Metallica influences, as those are among my favourite bands!

Opinion time...ToT was one of DTs weakest albums.  They tried to sound metal and it didn't work. Hell, I like FII much more.

I would be very happy with another Octavarium. That was a dynamic album and was tastefully written. It had many different elements; something I expect from a Prog band.

Yes of course, Octavarium is not their best album, anyway, simply the title track is worth the buying...
And yes, FII is better by far than ToT

Please...don't give me a reason to dislike DT. My opinion of them has been dropping. Its bad enough they copy everyone else. But copying someone like that?

DREAM THEATER: The new Dream Theater album Systematic Chaos has been postponed...
ROADRUNNER RECORDS regret to announce the delay of the new Dream Theater album Systematic Chaos. The album, scheduled for release on June 4th has been postponed due to errors in artwork printing. A&R man Derek Oliver commented: "We regret the postponement of the Dream Theater release due to printing errors in the artwork. The booklets received from the printing factory contained errors that did not pass our high standard quality check, so we had no other choice than to reject the artwork and get it reprinted."
The release date will now be July 23rd.

Systematic Chaos if the first album for the band to be released on Roadrunner records and is the band's ninth album, following the critically acclaimed Octavarium. The album was recorded at Avatar Studios in New York, with veteran engineer/ mixer Paul Northfield (Rush, Queensryche, Porcupine Tree). As usual, Portnoy and Petrucci chose to co-produce the project, which features seven compositions (one a 25-minute epic).
DREAM THEATER - SYSTEMATIC CHAOS

  1. In The Presence of Enemies Pt.1
  2. Forsaken
  3. Constant Motion
  4. The Dark Eternal Night
  5. Repentance
  6. Prophets of War
  7. The Ministry of Lost Souls
  8. In The Presence of Enemies Pt.2
Produced by John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy
Engineered and Mixed by Paul Northfield
Drummer Mike Portnoy was slightly less diplomatic about the error:
"Apparently they misspelled my name. It must have been a sick joke from someone at the printer's because when we received the test print everything was ok, but the final artwork showed my name as "Porntoy" and this was only discovered after 70,000 had been printed.

I personally thought it was very funny. After all the album is called 'Systematic Chaos'!

The product manager of Roadrunner was less amused tho. He said it was unacceptable and that some stores would refuse to stock it like this, so the artwork is to be reprinted.

That's politics. We will just have to budge and accept it. I am sorry for the delay but will ensure you the album will be worth the wait!"
