Whilst we can be pretty certain that PF were more of an epic sounding band they are not comparable with one another. It is an unfair poll - sorry no vote.

As much as I like Supertramp, this is not even close to being a contest. Floyd.

I have only heard a few Supertramp songs, and they struck me as kind of boring. But perhaps I should check out a whole album by them?

Try "Crime of the Century", "Crisis...?" or "Even in the quietest moments" or, if you lke Live albums, "Paris". They sound quite better than the singles alone.

BTW, for me, Supertramp, if only because they introduced me into Prog.

As I hate Supertramp and find nothing redemable about them at all, its Floyd by several light years.

I don't know what any of that has to do with the quality of music.

I agree. You really can't judge by their singles alone.

I went with Supertramp. Never cared for Pink Floyd that much.

If I was to compare Crime of the Century to Wish You Were Here it would be a toss-up.  But then there's Dark Side of the Moon and Animals vs. Even In the Quietest Moments and Crisis? What Crisis?.  In a pinch I'd go with Floyd here.  Comparing the two's lesser records?  Well then I'd have to go with Supertramp, as they are better at their worst than Pink Floyd.  So the result is truly.... I can't decide.

I don't know, I think Pink Floyd or maybe Floyd, or maybe PF or maybe the one with Gilmour in their line-up. Smile

Agreed. I would put "Crime of the Century" above all of Floyd's discography combined, it is a magnificent album and an absolute masterpeice. The climaxes and piano work in that album are amazing.

Agreed.  However, it should be noted that at least two members of Floyd (Waters and Mason) were always very much focused on success.  If you read some history of Floyd and comments by those two about the beginnings of the band, this becomes obvious.

But again, so what?  This has nothing to do with the quality of the music.  Personally, I've never had much interest in Supertramp, so maybe my choice of Floyd is a bit unfair since I've really only heard the Supertramp "hits" and they didn't do anything for me.  But I can at least say that they were well written and well performed, just not to my taste.

And, of course, in terms of commercial success, Pink Floyd arguably was far more successful.  Though I'd say they were more or less even in terms of frequency of radio play.

Yeah, it's not about the quality of their music. I do like some Supertramp, it's just the contrived way they came about. It leaves a feeling of lack of sincerity. IMO.
