There is a gap between Dream Theater and the other nine bands. I´m still trying to find out why. I even like ELP more than Dream Theater. 70´s prog is the best!

But I also don't absolutely love ELP. Their good, their excellent, but also their mellow and their uncharming.

I've tried to get into VDGG but it just doesn't do it for me.
 
Gentle Giant too, but to a lesser extent.
 
I rate the rest highly.

I like them all but if I'd have to choose one, I'd say VdGG. Quite too dark for my taste.
