Only started drinking when I was 18, im 20 now, and i dont drink very often, im at college and only drink with my friends on weekends, people who drink alot drink far more than once or twice a week.
Almost every adult i know drinks EVERy night, perhaps not to a drunken state but they sure do drink ALOT.
Im also very naturally ecstatic and dont need alot to get me really excited and crazy. I just love enjoying life to the fullest, and perhaps one day i will try some different drugs, but thats not on my list right now because i feel it will detract me from my very positive state of mind!

I've been able to enjoy prog (and life) drug free. I'd rather be in control of my faculties.

I discovered prog before being introduced to Cannabis. It certainly does make music more "resounding" and intense. However, I enjoy it just as much whilst not stoned.
There must have been somewhere in the region of 5000 threads relating to drugs and prog over the past few years, and they all have the same outcome

Behold the perils of decadence!
I've never tried it, it would seem completely pointless to do it. I think some people may have a bit too much time and money on their hands, honestly.
Plus, if you want to get stoned, go ahead, but trying to make up justifications for it like "it helps me appreciate art better" is hilarious. Does it miraculously decode artistic languages, does it unravel subtle meanings of the piece of art you're contemplating? I dare to doubt that. Of course, it can make you feel special things while immersing in contemplation, but that doesn't mean any "enlightenment" is involved. I believe the only way to efficiently alter reality is through the tools of reason, and not the momentary craft of illusions.

I've never had any sort of drug beyond Caffiene.
On a semi-related note, f*** your avatar. It's things like that that are ruining American politics.

Having too many Christians with too much political influence is more likely the cause of that.

I got into prog at a time in my life when weed wasn't a part of it whatsoever. Occasionally I smoke nowadays and I enjoy listening to some albums high, especially my favorites that I have history with.

HA ha ha ha ha!! To answer your questions, YES. I never really understood art until I got high and saw what I had to look for. I am not trying to justify myself, but It is what happened to me and I will not deny myself. Be careful when you impose your thoughts if you haven't tried it. Besides, I do find prog better sober, but weed opened the door. Also, people have been getting high for a long time. Those that were considered wise back in the day got together to discuss politics while smoking opium(which is a lot worse than weed cause it kills) and look where we are today.

Changing your thought patron by using some kind of drug can work as a chamanic experience. I smoke like 2 weed cigars a year. Once, I was listening to a U.K. album and the results were fantastic indeed. But, I have friends that smoke regulary and their lives are kind of ruined, so I keep a safe distance. Chaman / wizards days are over, and few people have the selfawareness necessary to enjoy the experience without getting lost in it. Most of the times, grass smokers are just too enthusiatic and little concentrated. As a writter wannabe, I can't allow myself to loose focus.
