Arion, symphonic prog band

I just read you review. Well, I'm glad you liked the record, although I don't really agree with everything you wrote. I still think they're very much a symphonic prog band, but I also understand it takes some time to get all the subtleties their music offers. They're only different. On the surface the CD really sounds a bit neo progressive in some parts, so I reckon other reviewrs opinions. Anyway, I'm glad you wrote the review, it's far better than mine!

And  yes, they do not have a mellotron on the album, but as long as I remember during one of their shows I saw Sérgio Paolucci playing and old ARP String Essemble synthesizer which, I think, it's the same he plays on record and this instrument is also part of the prog history, isn't it?

I'm looking forward to hear some of the bands you mentioned on the review. I'm really curious about them.

Yes, I think different people and different opinions will always appear. I still think the best of them is not really their obvious 70's influences, but the mix with brazilian roots. That gave them a sound of their own. Maybe is a little hard to find all the small details and nuances. At least it took me some time to fully appreciate it.  Anyway, it is always good to hear other opinions.

By the way, how can I find your thread? What's the music lounge?

I just heard Nexus Metanoia CD and I found it really outstanding! Although I still think Arion is better (at least in the originality and lead singer topics) I have a place in my heart for them. I thank you for the recomendation. It is always a pleasure to find such great bands to hear and it's a pity so few people have the opportunity to do so. Yes, I think Aries should get more attention. I loved it, very good music, I keep listening to it over and over.


It must have been very cool the progrock evening. I wish I was there. Well, some people would say Arion is neo progressive when they hear two of the guitar solos (namely on Eyes Of Time and Land Of Dreams). they do ressemble Steve Rothery style, but that's it. The rest is quite symphonic and I see no traces of neo prog anywhere else. But really it does not surprise me. I've seen a lot of bands that I would say it's more symphonic than neo prog, and they are included in that category and that includes Nexus. So I think its a matter of opinion more than anything else. It seemes that very few people are willing to accept new bands in that "top" label, isn't it?
