 Topic: Friends and Music Taste

I was just thinking about how so few of my friends share my music taste, and that my newer friends may listen to music I would never dream of listening to (no pun intended  ). I'd say that when making friends, music taste doesn't matter at all. I actually have the most intresting conversations with friends about everything but music.

Doesn't really matter, but it's nice to talk with other people about music. Sadly, I don't know too many music enthusiasts in real life, much less prog fans... oh well. Most of my friends have taste which ranges from decent (classic rock, indie) to downright horrible (gangsta rap, pop, emo).

Doesn't matter so much but it would be extremely nice if he/she likes the same music as me, at least that way they won't be annoyed by me constantly listening to it I would probably never get along with a punk though.

Dosn't matter at all
I'm friends with people who like punk (old 70's british anti everything punk AND green day "punk") emo rap pop metal prog
Of course it's nice if you have friends with the same taste

The only thing in common I can find on my friends is a passionated dedication (as creators or as auddience) to some form of art. That doesn't apply to the 100% of them, but it is close. I also have some friends that seem to have no passion for anything. Those, I keep an eye on them, since I suspect a possible consumist conspiration.

I'm married to someone who pretty much hates prog, so the music tastes of friends/potential friends is a non-issue for me.

Nah, I'm fine with raggae, R&B (I even like the Roots a bit), old school 80s-early 90s rap (when it was still kind of fresh), but screaming emo bands and hardcore new rap is just offensive to my ears.

Doesn't matter, most of my friends and family listen to crap by my standards. Obviously, it would be nice to have someone to talk about music to in the real world though.

Doesn't matter really, but if they are into prog it definetly helps a lot. Thank goodness that my wife is moslty tolerable of my musical tastes.

I love talking about music, but arguing can be just as fun, usually more, than agreeing. Taste in music/politics doesn't really matter one bit.

Not hugely important what kind of music they like, so long as they like music; there have been times in the past I have visited peoples' houses & one look around their lounge will tell me if I'd get on with them - no music collection? Nothing in common...
I dont know whether that says more about me than them, but hey...

Its not important but it would certanly be nice. I have friends who are prog fans, who are mildley interested at best and others that dont remotely listen to my kind of music.

I am the first to vote "Quite Important". It will be much easier to
talk to the person and I will get to know him/her sooner, if I talk
more. There are exceptions, of course, but I tend to look at what
people listen to before trying to get to know them.

It's not important. Although, a common taste in music can make it easier. My closest friends aren't really prog fans, but thy appreciate the music I listen to.

I could be P.C. and say that it shouldn't matter and everyone should be able to listen to want they want and I should be able to tolerate it. But, hell no. Once somebody decides to turn up some hip-hop, pop or country or any other insipid form of music they are no longer a friend, but an associate.
