I was just thinking about how so few of my friends share my music taste, and that my newer friends may listen to music I would never dream of listening to (no pun intended ). I'd say that when making friends, music taste doesn't matter at all. I actually have the most intresting conversations with friends about everything but music. -------------

Doesn't really matter, but it's nice to talk with other people about music. Sadly, I don't know too many music enthusiasts in real life, much less prog fans... oh well. Most of my friends have taste which ranges from decent (classic rock, indie) to downright horrible (gangsta rap, pop, emo). -------------

I'm friends with people who like punk (old 70's british anti everything punk AND green day "punk") emo rap pop metal prog
Of course it's nice if you have friends with the same taste

The only thing in common I can find on my friends is a passionated dedication (as creators or as auddience) to some form of art. That doesn't apply to the 100% of them, but it is close. I also have some friends that seem to have no passion for anything. Those, I keep an eye on them, since I suspect a possible consumist conspiration. ------------- ¡Beware of the Bee! |

Doesn't matter, most of my friends and family listen to crap by my standards. Obviously, it would be nice to have someone to talk about music to in the real world though.

Not hugely important what kind of music they like, so long as they like music; there have been times in the past I have visited peoples' houses & one look around their lounge will tell me if I'd get on with them - no music collection? Nothing in common...

Its not important but it would certanly be nice. I have friends who are prog fans, who are mildley interested at best and others that dont remotely listen to my kind of music. ------------- Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

Not important, but I have plenty of friends into great music. And no one I know are into any really awful stuff, but some are just not very musicinterested. A person's music taste is obviously a part of their personality, so I can't imagine being a close friend with someone into just Nu-Metal.

It doesn't matter, because if I cared I wouldn't have many friends. I have converted a friend or two and became frustrated with a kid who just listens to the crappy pop radio stations, but it still doesn't matter. -------------

I like Reggae and I can tolerate R&B quite nicely, but reggaeton is a totaly different story. I can listen to it on parties and such, but 90% of the people in Puerto Rico (the 10% being old people, deaf people and people who like other genres preferably salsa and merengue *sigh*) listen to that stuff. Almost every car have reggaeton playing loud so others can hear the same thing over and over again... Enough of that for now. I really don't mind about my friends liking my music since only 2 of them enjoy what I listen to. -------------

I actually have the most interesting conversations with friends about music. Some of my friends really like prog. One loves King Crimson, Wobbler and likes Gentle Giant, Emerson, Lake And Palmer, Gargamel and Yes. Another loves Opeth, Gentle Giant and Emerson, Lake And Palmer and likes Yes, Wobbler, King Crimson and The Flower Kings. Another loves Opeth. Two friends of mine (girls, I just want to say that because it is said that women don't like prog) listen to Prog. One loves The Mars Volta, Sigur Ros and Muse and likes Porcupine Tree and Radiohead. The other one loves Genesis and likes Yes, Emerson, Lake And Palmer and Gentle Giant...
