Ah yes, it's my PINK little friend again. How are you by the way???

It has come to my attention that my adopted slogan is being used against me.
I lived with a guy who played nothing but Dream Theater. His wife and I would sit in the kitchen and wonder why. She was a woman of good taste and one hell of a drummer to boot. She loved bands like ELP, Yes, and King Crimson to name but a few. I can on occasion enjoy DT's musical instrument acrobatics but when it's Mr LeBries turn to shine, I whine.  Cry  In this case I will have to adopt the truth here as being self evident. Wink

Why, I'm doing quite well, and very pink, thank you. How are you doing??

I guess I can't stop you from hating Dream Theater, wrong as it may be. But you can't fault me for liking them, either. One thing is certain: I'm keeping my ears open, looking for new stuff all the time. And I am STILL WAITING for any of it to be as consistently good (IMVHO) as Dream Theater.

Ok, I will concede that at times I wish Labrie wouldn't do quite as much wailing. But for some reason, I always kind of feel a little amped up when he does. I mean, yeeeaaahhhh. Kick ass. One thing about Mr. Kevin James Labrie that is a little polarizing: his vocal style is that of a "prog-metal drama queen". Of course, the original was none other than the great Geoff Tate (waaay underappreciated on this site), and I've always kind of liked the ultra-moody way these guys sing because it seems very emotionally purging to me. Yes, they can get a tad tiresome at times. But it's a nice counterbalance to some of the other vocalists I enjoy.

(Man, I never thought I'd get any flak about having a Kirby avatar. My original one was Donkey Kong walking on his fists—nothing cooler than that. But one day the website which had this kick-ass avatar had all of a sudden ceased to exist, and my avatar was gone! So I picked the second coolest possible avatar in the world: freakishly cute and pink lil' ol' Kirby.)

All is well just before bed.

I don't hate all of what Dream Theater does and as a matter of fact I enjoy Liquid Tension Experiment which comprises most of DT. I have never been a fan of heavy metal wailing.

You don't have to defend your likes and dislikes. It's just a bit of fun we have here.

I seriously think your Avatar is cool!!

The never come close to Yes. They have their own distinct style, which is good, but it can hardly be compared with that of Yes. However, they will probably be regarded as classics in 30 years or so. But they will remain a band people either love or hate.

When shining, I think LaBrie is very whiny aswell. Tongue That's in fact my biggest problem with DT. When LaBrie starts wailing like that, I never hear what he sings. Ermm

In my opinion, James LaBrie tries too hard to really sound like a "Prog-Metal drama queen", and fails in the process. To me, he's more of a "wannabe Prog-Metal drama queen". Geoff Tate is so much better.

I don't know... as my wife an old friend and I sat watching there Live DVD we were all reminded very much of YES. They are all Awesome players. If you haven't seen the DVD you rely should check it out.

Here at Prog Archives anything is possible and that means even comparing creative metal with creative genius. Of course that being Tales. Hey, and I notice you picked Tales. Thumbs Up

Oh yes, you got that right. Plus it injects a bit of personality and humour into these threads which can all too often run flat and boring. Tongue

I might do another Gentle Giant review or two (did their debut). I'm also planning to review News of the World by Queen, and maybe an Opeth album. Time will tell what eventually surfaces, though.

We are working on it.Ouch The well is a bit dry today.
By the way, I like the PFM disc. They have a rather unique sound and I do enjoy the whole album. Maybe I will put a review together for it once I get a few more listens in.

Haha, I remember seeing this thread when it was new almost two years ago. One of the best nostalgic threads I've seen in a while. Big%20smile

I can't remember what I voted back then! LOL (If I did at all)

Nowadays... I'm not so sure. Back then I would have probably voted TFTO. I guess I'll go with that, simply because I have to take into account DT's whole discography. If it was TFTO v. SFAM though, I'd go for SFAM. They're both awesome to me. Clap

What a stupid pointless thread.... An album against a band... very clever... You could put DT vs Yes or, say, Images and Words Vs Tales From TO but not the band vs the album... Confused....

Well, these two have one thing in common at least: they both incitre the most stupid reactions here in PA.....

I think the only real solution to this whole thread is for Dream Theater to do a remake of Tales and then we could compare. Otherwise this whole thread is pretty pointless. An interesting debate though. No vote from me. Dumb poll.

Oh relax, look at how many views it got. It's all just a bit of recreation and fun. Of course it a dumb poll as most of them are, but it brings a smile to some and that's all that counts.  Wink
