It's probably people logging out and re-voting unless that glitch was fixed. I do believe that Wilson is better though. I just find it hard to believe that he was losing by a good deal when this poll faded and no he made a triumphant comeback. Vote honestly people. Personally, I can't stand Opeth. I tried listening to Ghost Reveries, but couldn't make it through an entire song. I'm not a fan of brutal metal/vox, but I really like the soft parts.

Ghost Reveries isn't the best representation of what Opeth is capable of doing.  Try Still Life, Blackwater Park, or Deliverence for a complete view of Opeth.

Steve Wilson was able to capture Opeth's sound in a way no engineer past or current can.  (Blackwater Park, Delieverence, Damnation)

I still have to give my vote to Akerfelt, he hasn't given the scene as much of a resume Wilson has, but I think he's the more talented musician.  Wilson holds a slight edge if vocals, but when it comes to guitar playing and composing, I don't see how I couldn't vote for Akerfelt.

I think Mikael really challenged himself on Still Life. It is definetly Opeth's most unique album.

I still think I prefer Steve, but the fact that he was originally losing made voting for him easier for me. Then the man himself came on here and all of a sudden he's dominating. I want to vote for Mike now!

You know, Ghost Reveries reeeeally isn't that bad. But yeah, probably not Opeth's best.

I've heard so much crap about them sounding like Tool on Ghost Reveries, and I know the album by heart almost and I have no idea what part they're referencing. Is a band not allowed to use a certain mode/scale that another has used?

It has it's tool moments indeed. Put it is one of their best efforts. Probably their third best album.

I'm sorry, but even at its worst, Ghost Reveries knocks Tool out of the water.

Got that right !

My vote still goes for Akerfeldt, but let's all admit he had some great help from S Wilson...

What I like about Still Life is that it was Opeth first album that I would consider as a piece of Progressive Music.  The first three albums are good, but they just fall short of the Progressive Mark.  Still Life pushed them beyond that mark, and they've been ahead of it ever since.  That being said, I don't believe Opeth has ever topped the compositions "White Cluster" and "Moonlapse Vertigo".

The first riff 1 min into Ghost of Perdition sounds like Tool. The rest of it doesnt. It's just that one riff. Other than that, nothing like Tool. Sounding like other bands is not a problem, ripping them off is.

See Octavarium, read my review on that..., cept of course for you AtLoss, wouldn't want to shock you. Wink

Consider me the ultimate Opeth expert here, if you have questions about the band, pm me, I will most likely know exact answers.
back from the dead, i will begin posting reviews again and musing through the forums

Where? The claim seems utterly ridiculous to me.

White Cluster is the ultimate Opeth song. It's amazing. They had their progressive moments before Still Life, but I agree: Still Life was their first true full-blown prog album.

To name one:
"Ghost of Perdition", when he sings "Darkness by her side/Spoke and passed her by". The drums are pretty similar to Tools. Also the end of "Beneath the Mire", and there are more.
I also remember, around the time the album was being produced, Mikael had Laterelus in his playlist. And he's been praising them countless times in interviews. I'm sure he borrowed some influence, and I'm not criticising. Ghost Reveries was my favorite Opeth album for months.
