Hmmm for Micky I would recommend Falling Into Infinity
Seriously I hated it at first but then it started to grow on me
Seeing that our tastes are um well slightly different, maybe you would love it at first listen!
Just an idea... *can picture Micky mumbling"more like falling into hell!!"*<img

Raffaella also gets her kicks torturing DP haters. Wink

Like, if I were to say that Deep Purple were baffoons with less talent than a pole dancer and Ritchie Blackmore would sound better with his amp unplugged and duct tape over his guitar strings, she'd probably get mad. Tongue

good deal... I did give DT a fair shake... great talent but the music did absolutely nothing for me... none of it.. I enjoy metal so I don't know what the hangup is... I tried them out before I came here and started my alter-ego as Master of Prog Elitists (no mellotron.. no prog) so it's not a manifistation of that.  I remember absolutely hating Petrucci ..that much remains clear in my mind.. and the insipid vocals.. the nasty (bad nasty) bass tone of Myung... it just wasn't meant to be I guess.  Some day I'll pull that album out and try it ... once I have attained my quest of owning every prog album done between 1967 and 1979.  Then... I might give them another shot LOLWink  It's more fun having fun with the  kids anyway... most of them are good sports..

hahah..   complaining?  oh man... if I was to start complaining it wouldn't be about the group.  It's just not for me. IF I was to start complaining it would be about  the veritable projectile vomiting of  damn polls and threads that Dream Theater seems to span around here. Since I'm not the complaining type i'd suggest be thankful I don't start LOL  Besides I'm helping keep this thread from sinking to the depths of hell only to be replaced by a similar poll in a week or two.  Wink

I really love John Myung's playing.  Most people that don't even like Dream Theater will say that he is a great bassist.  Listen to some songs off Awake and Falling Into Infinity (Trial of Tears and Lines in the Sand) for some great bass tones.

Myung is one of the best bass I have studied or heard.  I can play three albums worth of his matierial and each one was a challenge morse so than any other bassists I have taken the time to learn.  He doesn't get the press John Petrucci, Jordan Rudess, and Mike Portnoy get, but I sincerely think he is the most skilled musician in the band.

If you would listen to metal bands, then you will understand just how important Myung is to DT's sound.  He's not all that up front in the mix, but he's very present comapred to other prog metal or metal bands.

hahah....  technically I think he is lights out... from what I remember hearing I wasn't impressed with the sound.   I've heard Awake isn't a bad album.. I'll check it out.
