Echolyn: on quite a lot of their compositions such as One voice, As the world,A cautious repose and many others. Ray Weston is one of the best vocalists i know with his clear and powerful voice, Brett Kull is also quite good.
TFK: I'm the sun, Eyes of the world, King's Prayer and also many others. Quite a few of them on Paradox Hotel. Hasse and Roine are really good at singing harmonies. Roine Stolt is also very good at singing quiet songs or passages with much feeling. He sometimes falls somewhat short if he has to sing a chorus alone, Hasse Froberg is very important here.
Spocks Beard and Neal Morse. Neal morse has a very good voice,SB harmonies are usually great especially on the Beware of darkness.

a few obvious ones:
Greg Lake on 'Epitaph'
Justin Hayward on 'Question'
Chris Thompson on 'Blinded By The Light'
Peter Gabriel on 'Solsbury Hill'
John Wetton on 'Fallen Angel'
Roger Waters/Dave Gilmour on 'Comfortably Numb'
...but as good as they are nothing beats.....
Peter Nicholls on 'The Last Human Gateway'

I'd like to mention Chris Cornell on his solo album Euphoria Morning (specially the slow song Steel Rain).

Seconded to say that if you like Euphoria Morning, you should check out
the band Eleven (the principal members of which co-wrote and played on
large parts of that album).

but my absolute favourite (of all time) has got to be 'Back In NYC'... goddamn I love that song... I love the lyrics and Gabriels vocals are just awesome.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH You say I must be crazy, coz I dont care who I hit, who I hit...

Gentle Giant's On Reflection - the vocal polyphony simply is as good as they come. A masterpiece of rock singing, although the style is originally not rock music. |
A masterpiece of vocal (and instrumental) polyphony and contrapuntal techniques. I think that GG moulded the style into Rock very well.
Great choice

Queen had also some great vocal performances like The Prophet's Song. |
Another great choice - that song alone justifies Queen's existence in the archives. There are few Prog bands that can touch it for vocals and use of tape loops.
My favourite vocal performance has got to be that on "First Utterance" by Comus - possibly closely followed by Necronomicon on "Tips Zum Selbstmord" - purely for the diverse ranges of vocal effects used, not because of advanced techniques or anything.
I prefer the "natural" over the academic
I din't touch the font
And is it only me that noticed that Greg Lake goes flat when he sings "Jerusalem"? I prefer Mark Stewart's performance of that song.

Most definitely: Jon Anderson on 'Awaken' from "Going for the One." Also, Anderson on the last part of 'Gates of Delirium' - "Soon, oh soon the light..."

I like Marcella Bovio's rendition of Open Your Eyes on the Stream Of Passion CD. Maybe not the best ever but a bloody good show.

Check out Mark Lanegan. Amazing voice! He used to be the singer of 90's grunge band The Screaming Trees, did a lot of work with Queens of the Stone Age - but his solo work is truly exquisite.

I can't even pretend this is my favorite (you'd see right through that), but it's definitely the most progressive hands down: Starpeace by Yoko Ono ("Starpeace was her [Yoko's] answer to the Reagan Star Wars campaign")...
