I think Zeppelin were very wise to not reform with another drummer. By quitting while they were on top they secured their legacy.
In some ways I wish Purple had stopped after releasing Perfect Strangers. Like Neil Young says Itīs better to burn out than to rust.

I wonder in what direction Zep would have gone if they had continued.
I actually loved In through the out door.

Which of this two bands you enjoy more. I think it makes sense comparing them because they're both prog related bands with strong hard rock passages.
I like them both but i think i enjoy more Led Zeppelin, maybe because i find them a more diverse band and a bit more emotional. |

I think they broke up at the right itme. I'd rather see a band break up while they are still good than slowly break down like some have.
I voted for Zeppelin, just because I think they are more interesting as a band. Bonham the vituoso drummer, page the virtuoso guitar player with occult interests and an excellent riff-writer, Plants vocals are unique, his lyrics thought provoking, and Jones was awesome on organ and bass. Excellent band in every way.

Well, if Aerosmith were in here I'd definitely choose them; why'd you leave them out?
I mean uh, yeah I prefer Deep Purple over Led Zep, probably because I strong dislike Zep's selling-out and demoralization. I also hear they were arrogant pricks on tours.
|
they were entitled to be - they were the BEST!!! (along with deep purple!!!) |
The book "Stairway To Heaven" by their tour manager Richard Cole reveals that they really started to act this way once they started to see success...
And I'd have to say Led Zep because I haven't heard a whole lot of Deep Purple, Pbut I've liked what I've heard so far).
I especially love "No Quarter" and "Achilles Last Stand"!

My head hurts trying to make a choice!
I will go with LZ only because I think they have had a more lasting influence on the world of rock music.
I listen to more LZ ... but I think I appreciate the music more when I crank up a bit of (pre-Burn) Purple. I'm a big fan of "Made In Japan".

Has to be Led Zep - individually Purple have had some great performers but as a UNIT Zep win easily.

Zeppelin has not made a single bad song.
Purple was amazingly good at their peak 1970-1972 but then, they lost "it".

Led Zeppelin without a doubt! They've been the most innovative rock band of their genre at the time... and you can actually hear they played with pleasure.
Deep Purple is also a great band but missed that special magic that Zep was adding with each surprising change of direction with every new album they'd released. I still don't get it why DP is in the Prog Archives and Zep is not

I'm sure I'll get crucified for saying this, but I hate Led Zeppelin. I
have never understood why they are so popular. Deep Purple rocks,
though.
