Topic: Is Yes really prog? Posted: February 17 2006 at 13:19 |
Well, everyone else was questioning the validity of other bands, so
Lord Qwerty felt like taking the time to focus on a band he doesn't
really feel matches the criteria of 'Progressive'. After all, they were
never as innovative and diverse as the Beatles, as emotionally charged
as Radiohead, or as influential as Deep Purple. (There are EASILY a
hundred metal bands for every prog band). That, and they are FAR less
consistent than any of the aforementioned bands. Also, this is
the band that popularized the notion that you had be a vituoso
(Whatever that means!) to be considered a 'progressive' musician. These
are Lord Qwerty's technical and moral reasons why he does not consider Yes to be a
progressive band.
Therefore, he believes that they should be removed from Prog Archives immediately.

Virtuoso:

- A person with masterly skill or technique in the arts.
- A person with a strong interest in the fine arts, especially in antiquities.
- Archaic. A very learned person

Um, yeah, I think he's kidding, dude.
That's why I strongly encourage the use of sarcasm tags.
Example:
<sarcasm>Oh, I completely agree with you. Yes should be removed from the Archives post haste! </sarcasm>

LQ I am glad to see you have a sense of humor. But I don't think Yes should be the next to go. Jethro Tull has already been eliminated. I think ELP should be next, followed by Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Yes, Gentle Giant, VDGG leaving Genesis the only true progressive rock band.

Well, Lord Qwerty does believe he has valid points, though he cannot claim to have great conviction in his argument.
