I'll give you some recommendations...

  • LE ORME - all their albums from "Collage" (1971) until "Florian" (1979) and IL FIUME (1996), ELEMENTI (2001), L' INFINITO (2004)
  • AREA - their first five albums
  • ALAN SORRENTI - ARIA (1972)
  • DALTON - RIFLESSIONI: IDEA D' INFINITO (1973)
  • ............................................................ .............

I didn't include new prog bands and many solo albums.

I heard about 50% of albums listed and agree with most titles.

But I have some notes.

  • LE ORME - all their albums from "Collage" (1971) until "Florian" (1979) and IL FIUME (1996), ELEMENTI (2001), L' INFINITO (2004)
  • - Why until "Florian"? IMO it is very good acoustic album, which, as well as its succcessor, "Piccola rapsodia dell'ape", deserves to be listened.

  • AREA - their first five albums
  • - Surely not a band for everyone. Only for those who like avant-garde stuff.

  • ALAN SORRENTI - ARIA (1972)
  • - IMO it's not a good choice for start. Good songwriter, but I think many (like me) will find his voice too annoying.

  • DALTON - RIFLESSIONI: IDEA D' INFINITO (1973)
  • - Totally agree!!! Transferred from vinyl (master tapes lost?), only 28 minutes long, but what a wonderful album! Great songwriting, flute and keyboard work. Why this band is not still included in PA?

I don't think THE TRIP is similar to ELP, but not bad at all.

Interesting enough, Ritchie Blackmore was in the first THE TRIP line-up (before band's debut album).

    QVL?

self titled or Il Tempo Della Gioia

    which do you are prefer?

Both are great but if i should choose one i'd go with their first album, one of the best examples of Italian Prog ever!!!

I prefer the first, but wasn't sure if it was just me hahahahha.

I only have Il Tempo Della Gioia and love it.I will try to check out their debut, since you all say it's really good.

    You'll LOVE IT... HIGHLY recommended.

Thanks.I will definitely check it out.

I am new to the Italian prog scene but I really like what I have heard so far.

I will pick PFM,since they are the band that got me into it.
