I just made a realization; prog has made me a more literate and well rounded person. Because of prog I have investigated books like The Soft Machine, Anthem, and War and Peace, just to name a few. Aldous Huxley is now one of my favorite writers. I now know more about astronomy because of my look into the meaning behind the song Cynus X1. I have studied philosophy to understand lyrics of certain prog bands. Prog is rock music that expands the mind In many ways.

Overall, yes. However, I have also grown much more intolorant of most other music. Also, my social skills are a bit rusty, but that's probably due to Prog Archives, not prog in general.

you have a point there The Wizard. Prog has made me change into a better person (at least thats what i think it did).

Yes, by following up the lyrical content in a number of songs and viewing some of the more interlectual disscusions on this site has certanly been enlightening. However the more prog I ind the less tolerent of mainstream music I become, not that that bothers me.

I agree with you but i rather read SF or Bukovski then Huxley.

     I think most prog listeners would have found other ways to round out
their character if it didn't exist, but life (at least the music listening part)
would certainly be more boring. It probably kept me composing since, not
having been raised with classical music nor studied in a conservatory, I
realized their are other possibilities for exploring complex musical ideas,
and even doing so with a sense of humour (Zappa was primarily responsible
for this insight).

I certainly owe it to prog, to a certain degree, that I've started thinking in a more nuanced and refined way. Although I think music has this great effect in general, I think it's prog that's enhanced me for the most of it.

Plus, although I love classical and jazz, I feel prog has developed me most in terms of sensitivity emotion etc. (still, a piano sonata by Ludwig van may be second to none in this respect).

Plus, it made me feel that I can speak more foreign lanuages. Delving into a prog band seems to me at least as challenging as learning a new language. For years now I've been toiling with such "languages" as Pink Floyd, Gentle Giant, Rush, Yes, Jethro Tull, Genesis aso, and now I'm still "working" (labor of love) on VdGG (huge, huge band!) and Magma and Gong aso.

So my final guess is prog is great schooling for mind and soul. Immensely recommended for anyone!
