It's my favorite Crimso album.  There's not a weak track.

Providence was recorded in the studio (in Providence as a matter of fact).

Red is BRILLIANT.

It can't possibly be overrated.

Red is slightly overrated, IMO. I like ITCOTCK, LTIA and S&BB much better. Still a excellent album, though!

I'm not too impressed with the title track, but the rest are top-notch

Red is still my favorite King Crimson album, followed closely by USA. That's probably not a coincidence. I love that lineup. I'll admit to skipping "Providence" once in a while, if I'm not feeling mellow enough for it.

I'd say it's King Crimson's best and most consistent album after 'ITCOTCK', as it has the most straightforward, and clearly structured, songs since then. It actually has the same format as 'ITCOTCK', with 4 straight songs and 1 experimental piece, in the same order- side 1 has three rock songs, side 1 has an experimental piece then another more straight song.

'Red', and in fact the John Wetton period in general, still sounds amazingly fresh and vibrant today, possibly due to the downplaying of keyboards in this era, that whilst I love keyboards, were very much a typically 70s phenomena.

I bought "Red" 10 years after its original release. Listening to it for the first time was a better experience than listening to "Larks Tongues in Aspic" - but, today, I prefer "Larks..." to "Red".

The album is OK but personally I prefer music that is faster and not so depressing.

I agree. Red is excellent but Lark's Tongues had a bigger impact on me.

Red has very good music on it. I loved it from the very first notes. It was immediately: "wow"!

I think that "Red" is best of their official studio albums (though theres one live track on it). Some of their live recordings from that line-up, which were released officially later, are still better musically, though they have a bit poorer sound quality!
