I love RAINBOW's RISING!!!
Stargazer is one of my favourites ever
Ritchie Blackmore is one of my favourites guitarists, DEEP PURPLE and RAINBOW are one of the best bands IMHO...
I have to vote for DEEP PURPLE, I love Child In Time more than Stargazer

Both excellent bands but Deep Purple take the prize for their
influence, output (I think they were musically more diverse than
Rainbow) and longevity. They did at the time produce probably the best
live album of that era (Made in Japan).

I'd choose Deep Purple as well, as 'Deep Purple In Rock' is one of the great heavy rock albums, and was definitely one of the most influential- you couldn't have had a Rainbow without Deep Purple, after all!

That's about what I think...how can you be asked to choose between Child In Time and Stargazer?

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Hmm...a tricky question indeed. My number one classic metal rule is that anything with Ritchie in it automatically is better than "those other guys." And I'll stand by that to my overbloated, metallic death. So who can I choose here?
Purple has Lord and Paice and...that bass dude, he was cool. Oh, and, the screamy dude! He was cool. But Rainbow had Cozy of Emerson, Lake and Cozy, as well as interchangeable personelle. Oh, and, Dio. Dio. DIO. Dee-f**kin'-o. I don't think I have to elaborate.
Dio PROBABLY outweighs everyone else in Deep Purple other than Ritchie, but, without any backing band, who can say?
And never mind that I'm listening to Rainbow right now...and that they're doin' "Mistreated," which IS, in fact, a Purple song. So I'm conflicted.
