I love RAINBOW's RISING!!!
Stargazer is one of my favourites ever
Ritchie Blackmore is one of my favourites guitarists, DEEP PURPLE and RAINBOW are one of the best bands IMHO...
I have to vote for DEEP PURPLE, I love Child In Time more than Stargazer

What kind of question is this ? are you trying to kill me ?

They are along with Rush my best bands ever.

I can't vote

Both excellent bands but Deep Purple take the prize for their influence, output (I think they were musically more diverse than Rainbow) and longevity. They did at the time produce probably the best live album of that era (Made in Japan).

I'd choose Deep Purple as well, as 'Deep Purple In Rock' is one of the great heavy rock albums, and was definitely one of the most influential- you couldn't have had a Rainbow without Deep Purple, after all!

That's about what I think...how can you be asked to choose between Child In Time and Stargazer?

Hmm...a tricky question indeed. My number one classic metal rule is that anything with Ritchie in it automatically is better than "those other guys." And I'll stand by that to my overbloated, metallic death. So who can I choose here?

Purple has Lord and Paice and...that bass dude, he was cool. Oh, and, the screamy dude! He was cool. But Rainbow had Cozy of Emerson, Lake and Cozy, as well as interchangeable personelle. Oh, and, Dio. Dio. DIO. Dee-f**kin'-o. I don't think I have to elaborate.

Dio PROBABLY outweighs everyone else in Deep Purple other than Ritchie, but, without any backing band, who can say?

And never mind that I'm listening to Rainbow right now...and that they're doin' "Mistreated," which IS, in fact, a Purple song. So I'm conflicted.

Deep Purple. I like Rainbow as well. (Although I'm not a big fan of Rising, save for of course Stargazer and I guess the intro to Tarot Woman)

Both are excellent bands and it's a very hard choice but I have to hand it over to Deep Purple, really.

Rainbow on the strength of the first three albums.

Unfortunately, Rainbow was hardly more then a 3-album band, their works after 1978  are hardly remarkable.
So Deep Purple.

I saw the PURPLE in concert (my first concert!). But love in the greater  manner RAINBOW with Dio and Powell!

Deep Purple, by virtue of having produced four good studio albums to Rainbow's three.

The first three Rainbow studio albums are big favourites of mine, especially the mighty Rising. However, in my book very little can touch Deep Purple, in most of their incarnations.

Not a big fan of the whole classic rock proggy thing, but I'll go with rainbow for puling off the sythesizer. J Lord is a better keyboardist, but failed at synthing.

Deep Purple by a long shot, Rainbow always sounded like a tribute band to me.

I'll take Captain Beyond...their self titled first album is one of the best albums I have ever heard. Clap Dancing madly backwards on a sea of air\:D/..I like both bands equally.

Although I think Rainbow, Whitesnake, Gillan, Captain Beyond and Warhorse are all great bands. Deep Purple remain the flagship so they are the best

1Deep Purple
2 Gillan
3 Rainbow
4 Whitesnake
5 Captain Beyond
6 Warhorse

Think I'll go with Rainbow here actually. Two bands I don't particularly like, though.
