Topic: Add SOUNDGARDEN to the archives! Posted: September 11 2005 at 12:24 |
soundarden is a graet band with a unique and original sound,
they are influenced by led zeppelin, black sabath and PINK FLOYD.
in his last three albums they develop a progressive way of make music, using many different time signatures riffs , using diferent kinds of guitar tunings , guitarist kim thayil make an exellent "athmospherical use of the guitar" that at times he can make it sound as a synth only with basic effects ,other point is that matt cameron -the drummer- works with geddy lee solo album.
albums i recomended to hear: down on the upside
superunknow.
bye!

No! Great band, even really quite original sometimes, but nothing whatsoever to do with prog!

Surely you must be kidding. Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath aren't
prog, and there's no Floyd influence in their music whatsoever.
They're a good band, but in absolutely no way are they related to prog.

What are you......on DOPE?????
You can explain it any way you like it,they aren't prog and never will be
And Cameron playing on Lee's solo cd isn't much of an argument. It's a good cd,but more hard rock than prog.

hey guys ! can you relax for a while?
i was trying to be objetive,
soundgarden have a unique sound, kim thayil can make sound his guitar like a moog.the man is areally landscape builder.
Soundgarden compositions have many differents and unnusual
time signatures and tunnings that mekes them so original .
in this aspects they deserve to be here more than deep purple , rhapsody(i love this one) ,nightwish.
does anyone of the people in desagree have listened to "superunknow" or "down on the upside" ?
the addition of mars volta was animate me to make this forum.
bye!
peace and love!

Soundgarden are a great band, and some songs from Superunknown and Down on the upside are sufficiently complex ... but they're not prog.
Actually, I wonder if Chris Cornell - Euphoria Morning could be included. That album is a real gem - wonderful mellow music, not at all like Soundgarden.

That's interesting, wasn't Cornell involved with someone from a prog band at some point? My memory may be playing tricks on me, of course.

I don't think grunge has anything to do with prog.........
Sorry, I see SG more as one of the ultimate grunge bands. Not prog though.
